Chapter 19: Late Night Lectures

As we trudged back to the campsite the four of us girls wrapped securely in towels and the boys t-shirts silence filled the air around us. Hayley, Dani and I followed the boys in a silent parade. "We are so in trouble" Dani whispered, I rolled my eyes at her obvious statement as we reached the campsite. We slowed as Dane brought the group a halt "Ladies go and get changed, Hayley Sean wants to talk to you, Danielle you go with Seb and Isabelle you with meet me at my tent and we are talking" he stated in his 'dont mess with me voice'. We all nodded solemnly and headed to our tent to get changed. As we entered the small space i let out a huff "I dont understand why they are making this such a big deal, it wasn't even that bad" I state angrily pulling on my a pair of sweat pants and a tank top and throwing a cardigan over my shoulders. Throwing my hair up in a bun I fumed silently chewing on my lip. "I know, but then again I can kinda understand when it was an open beach" Dani stated pulling on a jumper. I turned to her fuming, "What the heck Dani, your the one who wanted to do it in the first place!" I stated angrily. She flinched at my angry tone and held up her hands in defence "Yeah yeah but Im just saying I can understand!" I rolled my eyes as Hayley watched us cautiously. I sighed and stormed out of the tent, knowing that I didn't even want to go skinny dipping in the first place and here I was about to get in trouble for no reason, for something that wasn't even that big of a deal. As I left the tent I walked towards the figure that I knew to be Danes leaning casually against a tree, back to me, waiting for me. As I walked towards the him I felt a strange nervousness build up in me replacing the frustration I felt towards Hayley. "Dane?" I said cautiously gaining his full attention. He turned himself towards me his arms crossed over his broad chest,legs crossed at the ankles still leaning against the tree. "Isabelle" he stated flatly. I rolled my eyes anger building up inside me before responding with a tense "Seriously Dane, drop the Daddy act it really isn't that big of a deal, it wasn't even my idea!" Dane shook his head before pushing himself off of the tree and moving towards my angry figure. His face showed anger his dark eyes lit by the moon showed his tense mood clearly and I watched as his jaw became as tense as the rest of his body. "Not a big deal Isabelle?are you serious?" he asked as he continued moving towards me his arms moving expressively "Its a public camp site and a public beach? Anyone could have come seen and taken advantage of you guys!" he exclaimed his deep voice rumbling through my ears. He was now only standing a foot away from me. I groaned, "but no one did and no one would have Dane! We were just having a good time, and dont say you haven't done it before because i remember summer last year, you did the exact same thing with Sean and Anthony!" I ranted my voice rising a decibel "Don't be a hypocrite" I said meeting his slightly hurt gaze with an angry one. Im sure my face was flushed and my stature was tense. Dane put his hands on my shoulders and shook me gently before spinning me around slowly before speaking his eyes hard and stubborn "It's different Belle and you know it" I averted his eyes and realised that we had slowly moved backwards and I was now leaning against the rough bark of the tree Dane was originally leaning against. Dane reached a finger under my chin and forced me to meet his eyes. "Your more vulnerable then me" he said softly his eyes becoming tender. My anger melted away as I looked at my best friend and suddenly I became aware of our close proximity and my face burned with a blush, it was at this time I was thankful for the darkness. "I can handle myself Dane" I said softly staring into his dark eyes. "I know you can Belle," he stated "but I dont like you putting yourself at risk like that" he moved his hand and brushed a stray piece of wavy brown hair away from my face and tucked it behind my ear. I sighed gently "Okay I get it Dane, but you dont need to be so worried about me" he gently cupped my face bringing it closer to his own, "Your my number one girl Belle, of course I'm going to be worried about you" I let out a breathy sigh and wrapped my arms around him in a tight hug, my head resting in the crook of his neck. Inhaling his familiar scent. "Thank-you Daney, I love you lots" I said my voice muffled by his hair his arms that were wrapped around me tensed slightly and I heard him intake a quick breath. "I love you too Belle" he said his voice slightly husky. "Now, lets get you to bed" he said pulling away, taking my hand and leading me towards mine, Hayley's and Dani's tent. I noted that Hayley and Dani weren't back yet and Dane lead me towards my yellow sleeping bag. After tucking me in and kissing my forehead lightly he bid me a soft goodnight. That night I fell asleep with a smile on my face.
