Forever: Sprite

He grinned and bowed.

“The one and only,” he said jokingly.

“I doubt you’re the only guy named Nigel,” Maria teased.

Nigel frowned for a moment, but then the grin returned.

“I bet I’m the only Nigel with these eyes,” he said, staring at Maria.

“Hmmm,” Maria mumbled. “Can’t fight that.”

Nigel grinned victoriously. “I’m sure you can’t.”

Maria rolled her eyes and took a sip of her Sprite, turning her attention back to the game. She winced as a big player roughly shoved Will to the ground from the other team. But thankfully, he got up as if he wasn’t even fazed by it and kept on with the game, and Maria breathed a sigh of relief.

“That’s my boy,” she muttered under her breath.

Nigel looked at her, hearing what she had said and followed her gaze.

“Ah, boyfriend?” he asked. His voice hadn’t changed, since he already knew the answer.

Maria shook her head. “No. He’s my childhood and current best friend. Almost literally my twin brother from another mother.”

Nigel chuckled and looked over at her.

“What?” was all he said.

“We were born on the exact same day,” Maria explained. “And in the exact same hour.”

Nigel nodded slightly as she didn’t look at him.

“Hey Maria?” he asked, sounding as if he was trying to sound like an innocent kid, but his husky voice wasn’t helping there.

Maria looked over to see a wide-eyed Nigel and giggled. Most guys probably wouldn’t be able to pull the look off, but he look so adorable doing it.

“Yeah?”

“Will you come sit with me and my friends?” he asked, poking her side and making her jump in surprise when the ticklish feeling shot through her side.

She glared at his when he grinned at his discovery. “As long as you don’t do that again, then I would love to.”

“And there you go,” he said with a sigh, “ruining my fun.”

Maria would have glared harder, but Nigel grabbed her hand and pulled her to the stands. She didn’t know how to explain it, but her hand in his just felt… right, and she smiled.

Together they climbed to the top of the stands to a group small group of boys.

The first boy to look over had gray eyes and dirty blond hair. He first looked to Nigel, then Maria, who was standing slightly behind Nigel. A smirk cracked on his face.

“Fresh meat?” he asked and the other boys looked at her. He looked Maria up and down and grinned.

“Like what you see?” Maria asked sarcastically.

“Indeed I do, darling,” he said, smirking again. “Nigel picked a good one.”

Maria was about to go smack him upside the head, but Nigel beat her to it. She snickered.

“Shut up, Ian,” he said with a glare. “This is Maria, and, Maria, that’s Ian, Damon, Blake, and Martin.”

Martin sat to the left of Ian and had platinum blond hair that was short and laid flat against his head and were perfect with his hazel eyes. He was skinny, and looked shorter than Maria. Blake sat down in the seats in front of Ian and Martin with Damon. He had dark auburn hair that fell over bright green, intelligent eyes. He was average. Not that muscular, and not too skinny, but he was still an inch or two taller than Maria. He seemed a bit intimidating, like if you came to close, he’d get angry. Damon looked much nicer than Blake. He had a curly black hair that was trimmed short and warm brown eyes that matched his milk chocolate color skin. His long legs made it obvious that he was much taller than Maria.
