Forever: Real

“You're an idiot!” Ian shouted.

Nigel stared at him through puffy, red eyes.

“Thanks,” he said in a hoarse voice.

Did you even think when you decided to spill it?” Ian asked. “Did you even think about what her reaction might be? No, you didn't! We're not some plotline to a shitty vampire romance book, this is real, this is happening!”

“I’m sorry,” Nigel muttered.

Ian glared as fiercely as he could and picked up his backpack.

“Would. You. Stop. Saying. That!” Ian hit him with every word. “I know you’re sorry. But you’re just too damn hard-headed to do anything about it.”

Nigel sat down on the ground and sighed softly.

“Look,” said Ian, sitting next to him. “You’re my bestfriend. But so is ‘Ria. Or, at least, was. She was my bestfriend before you. But I think it’s easy to say that she’s not the same as she used to be. Hell – neither of you are. You both are about two times more stubborn.  But that’s not my point. If you’ll remember, Will told us about the whole thing about the both of them being agnostic. It’s not completely that she doesn’t want to believe it – she, at the moment, can’t believe it.”

A few seconds went by in silence.

“But she’ll come around eventually,” he said.

“What makes you say that,” Nigel asked.

“The horribly obvious sexual tension between the two of you,” Ian said with a smirk.

“Ian!” Maria called, trying to keep up with him as she stumbled constantly over the rocky ground. “Where the devil are we going?”

“You’ll see in just a few minutes.” Ian’s soft voice hinted mischief. He looked over his shoulder at Maria to see her clumsily moving across the rocks. The breeze was blowing very softly, and that was enough to press his clothes that she was wearing against her skin, making her body visible to him.

Smirking, Ian turned back around and kept moving. He knew the trail well and had no problem moving along it. Though it was Maria’s first time to come, so it wasn’t a surprise to him.

They reached the edge of the forest an emerged into the light of the sinking sun.

Maria gasped. They were on a ledge that overlooked the entire town of Little Ridge.

“Wow,” she said. “It’s so beautiful!”

Ian looked over at her and rolled his eyes.

“Come on, we ain't done,” he said. He grabbed her hand and they began to walk along the side of the ledge. They were heading to a deeper part of the forest. The ledge really had only been a detour.

In a moment a clearing opened up.

“Wanna go for a swim?” Ian grinned.

A small tank was set under a patch of treeless space was a dark blue under the dim sunlight.

“Why did you even ask?” Maria asked, already stripping down to her underwear.

Ian laughed, also removing his clothing. He didn’t dare look any farther down than her neck as he faced her.

“On three,” he said, holding his hand out to her.

Maria took his hand.

“One,” she said.
