Forever: Disaster
Sunlight streamed into the attic room through the window, lighting the disaster of a room well.
Posters were ripped through the middle and thrown to the floor. The mattress was flipped over and on the floor, the sheets stripped and strewn across the room. There was a pillow torn to shreds, stuffing here and there.
Maria lay in the middle of the disaster, curled into a tight ball. She lay there for a moment, trying to remember why she was on the floor, and it suddenly came rushing back to her. Sitting up, she pushed her wild of mane of hair back and then stood up slowly. Her knees were weak and her legs shook as she slowly walked to the stairs. She was able to make it down the stairs without falling, with help from the railing. She entered the kitchen slowly, still wobbling. There was a note on the fridge and she hesitated before reading it.
I’m at work. Call me if you need anything. –Cara
Maria crumpled the paper and tossed it onto the counter. She reached out and pulled the fridge open, surveying the food that was in there. She grabbed several Jell-O cups and reached for a spoon, and then sat up on top of the island in the middle of the kitchen. Remembering her phone in her pocket, she pulled it out and scrolled through her contacts.

Would you mind coming over? Even if not for long?
She tore the top off her first Jell-O and took a bite of the wiggly red cherry flavored substance.

Sure, I’ll be right over.
Within a few minutes, the Jell-O cup was empty and Maria leapt off the island, landing off balance on the clean, tile floor. She rushed as fast as she could to the front door and unlocked it so Nigel could come straight in, then retreated back to the kitchen and propped herself back up on the island.

The door is unlocked when you get here.
One more Jell-O and a shift of positions later, she heard shuffling somewhat behind her, coming from the kitchen door.
“Oh, hey, I didn’t hear you come in,” she said, not turning around.
“I didn’t know that you’d mind me being in your house,” a voice mused.
Maria froze, the spoon in her hand slipping from her fingers and clattering to the granite countertop. She turned, not wanting to believe her ears. When she looked, she met a pair of green eyes and screamed.
Sean flinched, but held his grin.
“No need to scream yet, sweetheart,” he said with a sly grin. “We haven’t done anything.”
Maria realized the double meaning, picked up her spoon and threw it at him. It would have hit him, if he had not moved from its path.
”Get the hell out of my house!” Maria shouted at him, climbing off the island, away from him.
Sean just simply smiled at her.
“I don’t think I will,” he said, stepping towards the island. In the flash of an eye, he climbed over it and jumped in front of Maria.
She backed up, her back pressed against the counter.
“If I may ask, why do you stick around Nigel?” he asked, an evil glint in his eyes. “What makes you want to be around him?”
Maria only whimpered as he stepped even closer, less than a few inches between them.
“Sean,” she whispered. “Please stop.”
