Forever: Hospital Beds

Maria TheSexyNerdBeast? Why that?
Maria burst out laughing, earning Jane and Kirsten’s attention.
“What?” Jane asked.
Maria rolled over on the floor and showed her.
Jane rolled her eyes and continued watching the movie playing.
Maria frowned at her irritation and typed a response.

Hey don’t judge mine. Not like yours is any better though, Nigel Likes Cake.
She pressed send with a grin and watched the movie until her phone vibrated again.

Hey, cake is good. Like burgers and pizza.
Maria scowled at the word ‘burgers’, feeling her stomach churn. She hated burgers with a passion. Mostly depending one which fast-food restaurant they were from, they were heart attacks on a bun.

I hate burgers. They're disgusting.
Just after she pressed send, she heard loud music and bobbed her head to it, recognizing the tune. Then she realized her phone was ringing. She looked at the caller ID to see it was Will calling.
“Yellow?” she said into the phone when she pressed receive.
“M-Maria?” a woman’s shaky voice asked. It sounded like the woman had been crying and she heard a hiccup.
“Mrs. Harris?” Maria asked, surprised at Will’s mother on the other line. “What’s wrong?”
“I-it’s Will,” Mrs. Harris stuttered. “He’s been in a car crash; he’s at the hospital.”
Maria’s blood ran cold and her breath caught in her throat. No, this couldn’t be happening. Not her Will.
“I’ll be right there,” Maria said into the phone, pulling on her shoes and her hoodie.
“Maria?” Jane asked, but she ignored her and dashed out the door.
She made it outside, trying to remember the directions to the hospital. It wasn’t far. Just about ten blocks north. She took off in a run, her phone still in her hand. She breathed heavily through her nose as her feet hit the ground over and over again. Passing cars and houses, Maria pressed the speed on.
Her Will was hurt and in the hospital. He could be dying. She pushed the thought out of her head and kept running. She could see the bright lights from the hospital not far ahead and ran with all of her might. Her legs were tired, but she couldn’t stop. She needed air and water, but she ignored the craving and kept going.
Soon enough, she burst through the hospital doors, breathing heavily and eyes searching for Mrs. Harris.
Mrs. Harris’s head snapped to Maria and she rushed over and threw herself at Maria, sobbing wildly.
“Maria!” she wildly, crying wildly into Maria’s shoulder. “They’re working on him and patching him up. They haven’t let me see him yet; I’m so worried!”
“Mrs. Harris,” Maria said. “Will doesn’t have his license. Who was he with?”
Mrs. Harris pulled back and pointed to the corner of the waiting room.
