24 - Netflix and Bath
{arabellas point of view}
I was left confused by Calum's sudden departure. I knew that it probably shouldn't bother me, but it did. I mean we're close, or becoming so, and yet he runs off as if something is happening I can't know about. Surely he knew I would find out anyway. Surely it wasn't important enough to leave and confuse me this much.
My mind was left wandering, I couldn't help but imagine all of the different scenarios. It was this atmosphere, the air of upsets past; it made me overthink everything. The area enticed my inner demons. I didn't have many but whatever demons I did have: good, bad, angry, upset or even overly happy demons, they all came out here.
After a while I decided to leave. I knew I would have messages on my phone, they clogged up my lock screen every time I checked the time but I never read them. I might occasionally skim them if they were from someone important and I was bored, but I hadn't today. I had gone hours without a word to anyone. The girls would be concerned. Anyone in he group that didn't reply in under an hour would be officially announced MIA. I knew I would have a few people to ring and a few excuses to make up. It was possible but it was a burden. So I waited until I got home.
It wasn't a long walk but it seemed a lot longer than it had when I walked here with Calum. This time instead of having him annoying me or teasing my time-keeping I had to think about why he would leave those opportunities. It wasn't ideal, if anyone else was inside my brain I knew they would be confused, hell I was confused. It wasn't normal, but then again who enjoys normal. Boring people. I refused to let anyone hold me down with nothing but a normal personality.
My door soon came in sight and I sighed. It would be cold and empty inside. I couldn't face it tonight, I just didn't want to. As if on queue, my phone buzzed in my pocket. It was Mia. Hesitantly, I raised the phone to my ear, unsure of the tone of this phone call. When I heard no scream I knew I was safe to complete the action of lifting my smart phone to my ear.
"Where the hell have you been? You practically disappeared off of the face of the earth in one of the most important times. I have to admit you're not very good with instincts or whatever it's called," Mia sighed down the line. I scoffed.
"Sorry I don't have the ability of reading minds and predicting the future so I can decide when or when I can't relax with a Netflix and a bath. Anyway, what's so urgent that you needed me around; I swear if you say it's Bethany having a hair problem again-"
"It's not Bethany's hair that's in pain, it's Nate's fist." My stomach sunk. His fist? He can't have hit Calum, I had been with him the whole time. Why and who would Nate hit? My mind was whirling, after just recovering from my previous train of thought.
"H-His what?" My words wouldn't form and I mentally scorned myself for my inability to speak my own language.
"His fist. You're creepy stalker has taken his personal grudge to the next level. And by next level we don't mean a petty argument that was formed and finished on school grounds. We're talking full on punch outs and abuse, outside of school and uncontrolled. It was frightening. No one was there to stop him. Not even Calum, he was nowhere in sight." They were being cryptic, they weren't telling me everything in detail but I couldn't exactly tell them I knew where Calum was and why it happened the way it did. Who was getting hit? Why would Calum have intervened anyway?
"Can we please just inform me on who Nate has been hitting and or hurting?" I asked the girl on the other line. My phone buzzed on my ear signalling that I had another message for when I finished this conversation. But this time instead of not knowing about what it could be about, I knew exactly what this text message would contain. Information. My train of thought was broken for the second time by the small blonde.
"Ashton. Nate went after Ashton." My brain couldn't comprehend the words I had just heard. Surely not? I felt the muscles in my mouth fall slack and my jaw swinging open but no noise escaped from me other than a stutter. "Bells? Bella?" Her sweet voice echoed in my ear, shaking me out of my trance.
"Ashton Irwin?" There wasn't another Ashton around but I had to know for sure.
"Ashton Irwin is in hospital because Nate hit him." Now I knew where Calum had gone.
