Rescue

Y/N began to fall off the edge of the cliff as the rocks beneath her gave way, her eyes wide with surprise and fear. The human tried to reach a hand out, to grab onto anything, to prevent from falling. The last thing she saw as she fell off the cliff was Jasper's face, and as Y/N continued to fall she managed to grasp hold of a small slab of rock. But it was still a good 20 feet away from the top of the cliff, where Jasper still stood. 'Oh shit!' Y/N thought, starting to slip already, the rocks were wet from the rising tide. 'If I fall into the water...' Y/N looked down at the crashing waves, 'my camera equipment will be ruined- wait, I need to concentrate on escaping this alive!' Y/N mentally lectured herself on valuing her own life more than some old camera, but her thoughts were interrupted by a shout.

"Y/N!" Jasper yelled desperately, Y/N looked up and saw the gem looking down at her, her eyes were full of worry. Y/N propped her elbows on the rock and smiled.

"You called me by my name!" Y/N shouted.

"Is that what you're worried about?! You're on the edge of cliff for fucks sake!" Jasper's voice grew more and more anxious with each word she shouted at Y/N.

"Here," Y/N grabbed the camera that hung around her neck and threw it to Jasper with all of the strength she can muster, "don't let fall into the ocean!" Jasper caught the camera and tossed to her side.

"You shouldn't be worried about that! The real concern is-" Jasper stopped talking when Y/N was hit by a wave and fell towards the ocean.

'Shit! I slipped off the edge of the rock!' Y/N tried to grab onto anymore rocks that happened to jut out of the cliff side, but she was too far this time, 'I guess I'll have to depend on my swimming skills and swim back to shore...somehow.' She knew that the tide would be too strong to swim against, but she would try anyways, Y/N glimpsed at the sky for the last time, but instead of the usual baby blue, there was a blur of orange.

"Y/N!" Jasper shouted as loudly as she could, she dove for Y/N as soon as the human lost her grip on the rocks ledge.

"Jasper?!" Y/N screamed, why would this gem risk saving a humans life? Y/N smiled slightly as the gems arms reached out for her and Y/N did the same, as soon as Jasper managed to get a hold of Y/N she held her in a tight grasp and pulled the human close to her chest. Y/N shut her eyes before either of them hit the water, but to the humans surprise, she hadn't felt any of the cool seawater hit her skin. Y/N opened her eyes again and saw that the gem had transformed into a large bird, her arms were held by a pair of large bird feet, 'amazing...' Y/N looked up at the gems wings, they were spread wide and she admired their color, 'so many beautiful shades of Jasper...wait! No! Oh god now I'm blushing!' Y/N looked back down, letting her hair cover as much of her face as possible. As soon as the two landed back onto solid ground Y/N looked around for her camera.

"You know, even a simple 'thanks' would suffice," Jasper sat on the ground, her legs and arms crossed, and pouted a bit. Y/N picked up her camera and placed it back onto her neck, then she immediately turned and ran to Jasper and threw her arms around the gems neck.

"Thank you for saving me," Y/N smiled and buried her face in Jasper's shoulder, Jasper started to blush and hesitantly rested a hand on the small of Y/N's back.

"You're welcome..." Jasper muttered.

Y/N sat on on of Jasper's knees and held up 2 fingers, "you said my name twice today!" She smiled happily, Jasper rolled her eyes and gently pushed Y/N off of her.

"You were just imagining things," Jasper slightly smiled when she saw Y/N get up and stick her tongue out at her.

"Impossible, I have perfect hearing!" Y/N scoffed, and she started walking to the edge of the cliff again, but Jasper quickly grabbed her hand.

"Where do you think you're going, brat?" She asked.

"I'm going to take more pictures, duh!" Y/N shook her camera in front of Jasper's face.

"No you're not," Jasper snatched Y/N's camera and stood up, Y/N tried to grab the item from the gem but she merely raised it in the air, making it impossible for Y/N to reach.

"Hey! Why not?!" Y/N puffed her cheeks in frustration, trying to jump up and reach her camera.

"Are you an idiot? You just fell off of that cliff, for all you know, it's still unstable," Jasper argued.

"Yeah well if I fall off again I know that you'll be here to save me again," Y/N said. Jasper's face grew about 3 shades darker and covered her face with her hand, but she shook it off, trying not to be a pushover again.

"No, we're going home now," the gem tossed the grumpy human over her shoulder and walked back home while those words still rung in her ears.
