As I stared at the photos of me and Jenny enjoying our time together when we were in year six I remembered my painting. A thin layer of dust had already formed on top of it. I decided to get a bag to put it in to avoid more dust covering my painted.

As I went downstairs the doorbell rang. I ran to the door but my mum beat me there. Completely forgetting about the bag, I walked back upstairs sure it was just another man advertising his company or job. But my thoughts were interrupted when my mum said "Kate, there's a visitor for you. Probably a friend from school."

Expecting it to be Jenny come to become friends again with me, I hurried down the stairs to the door. But instead of seeing Jenny at the door I saw someone with icy cold blue eyes and curly long blonde hair. Melanie. What was she doing here? Why was she at my house? It wasn't like Jordan lived here.

"Well what are you doing Kate? Let her in!" Shouted mum from the corridor.
"Umm... Ok. Come in Melanie..."
"Uhh... Just call me Mel."
Why was she acting so nice to me? Something was really fishy.

I led Mel into my room and the first thing she asked me was, "Where is your artwork? I mean, I heard you... Uh... Was entering..."
"Umm... Yeah, I am and my artworks here." I showed Mel the artwork and put it on my desk. Then I heard my phone ring. But where was it? Then I remembered. It was downstairs from the time before when I went down to get a bag for my artwork.

Running down once again to get my phone and the bag that I had forgotten about, I left Mel with my painting in my room. I reached my phone just in time. It was Jenny who had called.

"Uh, Hi" I answered.
"Umm... Hey Kate" Jenny responded.
"So what's up?"
"Oh nothing just wanted to say sorry about the days before. I'm really sorry..."
"It's ok. I guess sometimes we all get confused a little."
"Thanks for forgiving me..."
"It's alright. So are we friends again?"I asked hoping the answer was yes.
"No!" Jenny replied

I was shocked

"What do you mean we aren't friends?"
"Of course we aren't friends Kate! We are best friends!"
"Oh Jenny you scared me for a while!"
"Anyway thanks. But I have to go now."
"See you tomorrow at school Jen!"
"Bye!"

I was so happy. We were friends again. Suddenly I heard someone running down the stairs. It was Melanie. She looked like she was in a rush.
"Uhh... Melanie? What's the rush?"
"Oh! I have to uhh... See my mum! By the way, I made your artwork better than before."
And with that she slammed the front door and ran away.

What did she mean by she had made my artwork better than before? What did she do to it? A sudden feeling of worry overcame me. I dashed into my room to see bits of shredded canvas all over my desk.

"No! She couldn't have! She couldn't have shredded my painting!" I sobbed. I looked at the remnants of the painting and sat as my tears dropped onto what was left of the canvas. I hated Melanie more than ever! How could she do this to me? And worst of all, there was only a week left...

Then suddenly I caught a glimpse of movement from the corner of my eye. It was probably that mysterious neighbour who always looked through their window to see what I was doing. But there was no time to think of that right now. I was sad. More than sad. Even more than upset...

I lay on my bed and cried myself to sleep.
