The results were announced today at assembly. All the contestants sat in a line nervously waiting for their results.
Finally after what felt like forever the principal, Mr Wayne, stepped onto the stage. "Good afternoon students of Pineridge High. Today we will start with our normal routine then we shall announce the results to the art competition." Mr Wayne announced.
The assembly went on and one and every second the butterflies in my tummy grew bigger and bigger. I looked at Jordan sitting next to me and he gave me an encouraging smile. Mr Wayne announced the winners to the maths competition and gave out the certificates. I started to doze off... Suddenly I heard "Now for the results to the art competition!" I woke up with a start and sat upright in my chair.
"Like usual we will have three main winners. The rest will get a art and craft gift card each worth for $50. Also we will announce the winners third to first."
My stomach felt like a plane was getting ready to launch. I was so nervous. "You okay?" Jordan asked me.
"You look really pale." I did? I probably was really nervous. "Yeah I'm fine." I lied.The announcing had started. "Third place gets an art kit with a $100 voucher. This place goes to Rhea who entered a wonderful artwork of a sunset using acrylic paints."
There was lots of cheering as Rhea stood up and walked onto the stage and received her prize. She stood on the stage proudly with a beaming smile as others whooped and cheered.
I was relieved. That meant I could have got into first place! But I could have also come into none of them and end up getting a $50 gift card instead! I let out a shaky breath and tried to control my nerves...
"Second place goes to..."
