All our eyes followed Mr Wayne as he pulled out the second place prize from the huge gift box. It was a slip of A4 paper. I was sure I didn't want it till I heard what it really was.
"The second place prize is a scholarship to the finest art school in the country. And I am proud to announce that the winner to this place is..." By now the butterflies in my stomach were probably bigger than a truck.
"Kate Davies!" I had a huge grin on my face mixed with surprise and shock. I slowly stepped onto the stage but before I reached Mr Wayne I motioned Jordan to follow me. He shook his head but I didn't give up and ran down the stairs and grabbed his arm as I pulled him up. mr Wayne smiled and I smiled back.
I have to admit I really wanted to get first place but second was good enough... I received the prize as my friends cheered and clapped and I looked back stupidly at everyone else. Then I remembered Jordan and everything he was going through. I realised that he needed the scholarship more than me.
I handed him the paper face down and Jordan gave me a puzzled look. "What's this? Where did you get this random piece of paper from?" Then he turned it around and gasped. "No" he shook his head. "Yes. For you. It may save some money you know. Or get you somewhere too."
Jordan tried to hand the scholarship back to me but I stopped him and backed away. "If I needed it, I would keep it. I obviously don't need it because I'm giving it to you." Jordan looked dumbfounded. He let out a sigh. "Fine if you promise on your own life that you really don't want it I'll have it."
I told him I promised but I had to quiet down to find out who the winner was.
"Melanie Walliams!" Melanie put on her best surprised look and as she walked past she smirked at me and I have her a glare. This explained why she had ripped my canvas up! I was so mad I wanted to punch her! Kick her! Until she was covered in bruises with at least one cast. But most of all I wanted to weep in my own room. With no one around to see me.
As I thought of this, tears welled up in my eyes. I sniffed as a tear rolled down my cheek. "Are you okay?" Jordan asked. "Umm, yeah." Obviously this wasn't enough for Melanie because she suddenly shouted across the whole hall. "Look at poor Kate! She's so sad she didn't come first!!! She's even crying!" Melanie's voice was full of mockery.
Then the most unexpected thing happened...
