Miranda and I knew that since this was our first homecoming dance we had to arrive to our school in style, so a long black limo would do, right? We skipped the football game and headed straight for the dance. "Remind me to thank your aunt Tina for renting us this limo again." I lounged back in the comfortable leather seat of our vehicle. "No prob. Hey, what happened to your magical dress?" Miranda asked sarcastically. "I decided not to wear it. I wanted this night to be "magic" free. So I found a more simple one in the back of my closet." We laughed, then climbed out of our limo seeing that we had reached our destination.

"I wonder if he's here yet. Do you think he's here yet?" This was all I heard walking up the steps to the front doors of the school.

"I'm sure he's here already. In fact, I will call him to prove my point." I dug through my purse.

"No need." Trevor said, now standing beside Miranda. "Shall we?" I just had to remember that he had no feelings for her and that this was just an undercover mission. Okay maybe no "undercover" but still.

I let Trevor and Miranda go off and slow dance for a while, as I stayed up at the top of the staircase inside of the gym looking out at the entire student body. A couple minutes later one of Trevor's friends came by and asked to dance with me but before we could the principal's voice boomed out across the gym from the stage.

"Alright everyone settle down, settle down. A little birdie told me that we have a singer in our gym tonight." A bunch of people turned to look at Trevor. "Trevor? Would you mind?"

So that's what he was doing after school this week! There were no pictures, he was rehearsing with his friends!

Trevor hopped up on stage and began speaking. "I think everyone knows this song but I might as well ask. Since our theme is clearly stars this year," he pointed up at the stars hanging from the ceiling, "do you guys like the song Counting Stars?" A loud roar of whoops and hollers erupted from the crowd. "Okay, I'll take that as a yes!"

"Lately, I've been, I've been losing sleep.." as Trevor started singing everyone in the crowd started partnering up for a slow dance, while I stayed by the punch bowl. Then Miranda came up to me.

"He's amazing isn't he?" she asked while scooping out some of the dark red liquid from the bowl.

"You knew?" I replied.

"Well of course I knew. After all, he is my date." Then I remembered our plan to figure out if she had powers or not.

"Why don't you go dance with him after he's done singing?"

"Maybe, but first I'm gonna stock up on this punch." she laughed. I swear she can be quite the ditz sometimes.

As soon as the music picked up everyone formed a giant circle around the room and were no long slow dancing with their partners but instead fast dancing? I don't know what you would call it. It kind of scared me.

"I see this life like a swinging vine, swing my heart across the line..." Trevor sang as he swung his legs in a Michael Jackson dance move. I sat down at one of the tables farthest from the stage. I wanted a good visual on him and the people in the audience cheering him on. "I feel something so right, doing the wrong thing. And I feel something so wrong, doing the right thing. I could lie, could lie, could lie. Everything that kills me makes me feel alive!" As he started the chorus he jumped off the stage and headed straight for me, while the giant line/circle dancing continued. He then offered me his hand, signaling that he wanted to dance. "Lately, I've been, I've been losing sleep. Dreaming about the things that we could be. But baby I've been, I've been praying hard. Said no more counting dollars, we'll be counting stars."

"I don't dance!" I tried shouting over the music and shuffling people, but all he would do is stand there, so I kept shaking my head. Finally, I got up to go get some punch when Trevor pulled me into the circle with him. I was dancing on tables, twirling in circles, dancing with total strangers. Don't ask about that last part. Finally when the beat picked up even more I got on top of a table and river danced! Then I fell, and he caught me. "Everything that kills me..." he sang as he slowly dipped me then brought me back up only and inch away from his face, "makes me feel alive." Surprisingly, he twirled me away from him to another dance partner. "Trevor!" I tried yelling after him. As the song got faster and faster at the end, I was being spinned out of control. And when the last beat to Counting Stars played, "..sing in the river the lessons are learnt." I was twirled into Trevor's arms again, quite abruptly too, and it looked like he was leaning in to kiss me.

"I can't." I whispered, only centimeters away. "We're on a mission, and you're on a pretend date, this isn't right, She's my best friend."

"I wasn't going to kiss you." he blushed. Then I blushed. "Come with me." he escorted me out of the gym.
