Not What You Expect

Chapter Three

Raines pov

I wake up to Tobi shaking me gently, noticing we were still on the couch I stretch out and murmur uncoherent words into his neck. He chuckles and picks me up carrying me into my room.

He places me on my bed and gently pulls the covers out from under me and then over onto me "good night Wynter."

I whimper "don't leave Tobi." He sighs and gets under the covers with me. I snuggle into his chest and let out a small sigh. His arms around my waist and head on top of mine he whispers "I hope your mate can give you more than what i can."

I shake my head "he can't." I can feel him staring at me now "why can't he?" he asks me, I shake my head "they won't understand me like you and your mom, they will never know ME."

He chuckles "that's because we have known each other since we were cubs." I nod "I know."

'yes that was why he and I were so attached, no well never be a couple, just a brother and sister bond that is too strong for anyone to break, he's been with me ever since I could remember, except when my life was changed he was just there, arms wide open after my life came tumbling and crashing in on itself, he helped me stay strong,' letting out a shaky breath "your enough for me Tobi, you'll keep me happy, won't you?"

He nods and I feel his arms tighten around me "I won't let you go, just know we all have mates, and my mates needs will have to come before yours wynter... I will always love you, but you will have to let go later, you're almost sixteen."

I stay quiet and listen to Tobi's breathing even out. Knowing he's asleep I open my eyes and look out the window "I know I can't have you forever brother."

Tears fall down my face "I'm just afraid of what's to come, who's to be there? When I turn 16 and I find my mate I hope they will be patient. I am afraid that he will take me away from you, I don't think I am ready." Closing my eyes I slip back into sleep and let myself go as a sweet dream engulfs me.

When I wake up in the morning I stretch out and notice that the warmth of Tobi is gone, which means Tobi is gone. He always does that, maybe its cause he had to go to a pack meeting, or he had to shower to rinse the smell of me off of him so if he finds his mate they won't know he was sleeping in my bed. His mother wanted us to be mates and everything but that was until Tobi turned 16 and we looked into each other's eyes and he felt nothing, his wolf didn't even catch a slight bond other than the brother/sister bond we shared. Granted I haven't turned 16 yet, so we won't fully know till then, but I'm positive he's not my mate, it's just not possible not since we bonded by sister/brother bond. The moongoddes herself knows we are only meant to be friends and that's how it is gonna stay.

I slide out of bed and I feel the rug in-between my toes. I stride over to my closet and get ready for the day that's ahead of me, it's only a month till my birthday and that's when ill find my mate. Devastated at what ill find or more who I'll be paired with I grab some tight blue jeans and a black tank top. Once changed I brush out my long blackish silver hair and put on some black eyeliner making my eyes pop out more than usual. Grabbing a light jacket I zip it up and go to the kitchen where Karla stands over the stove cooking what looks like a small meal for two.

"Are you cooking for Lincoln or me and you?" She giggles at my joke since males with higher ranks can eat much more food than two regular male ranks combined.

"I'm making this for me and you, Lincoln had to leave on pack business, He went to the alphas house because the princess came to town and he had to go and make sure the princess feels at home their, she's come here in search of her mate, her father is very demanding after what happened to his queen 10 years ago." I sigh 10 years ago I was 5 and wasn't around to know what happened.

"Well thank you for making me breakfast, your like my own mother." She smiles at me sadly "your mother was amazing, and my best friend so it's no worries dear." She sets down our food and we start eating in silence. She smiles at me and says "Tobi went with Lincoln to see if our princess is his mate, wont that be exciting if she is!" feeling a little agitated at the mention of him being her mate, I quickly hide that and nod smiling "that would be great, he would be a king then."

I wash my dishes and then leave "I'll be back later mom, bye"

As I leave the house and step off the shielded porch wind whist past me. It isn't as cold as yesterday but still enough to make shivers crawl down your spine. I place my hands in my jacket pockets and walk in the direction of town.

'Hopefully my favorite cafe is open.'
