Not What You Expect

Chapter Eight

Valentina's pov

I wake up to a cold feeling around me. I look to my side and see Raine wasn't there. I shoot out of bed and grab my shoes. I slip them on and race downstairs.

"Where's Raine?" I ask fast.

"I thought she was asleep..." Tobi says. I run out the front door.

"Princess, wait!" I heard Hunter yell. I ignore him and race through the streets. I take a whiff to try to find her scent. Her scent, which is vanilla and flowers, fills my nose and I race to find her. I suddenly run into someone.

"I'm so sorry!" I say fast to the smaller being.

"It's okay. But what's the rush?" I heard Raine say. I smile and wrap my arms tightly around the female.

"Goddammit. I was worried. Where the hell did you go?"

"Just for a walk."

"God. You're freezing." She pulls away from me.

"Why do you care so much?" She snaps towards me, catching me off guard.

"I.... I-I don't know." I say, backing up a little, seeing how weird this is. She frowns a little but covers it up.

"Let's get back to the house." She mumbles and I nod. We head back to the house and I open the door for her.

"Goddammit, Princess, you scared us there." Hunter says, scolding me. I roll my eyes. Raine raises an eyebrow at me.

"What the hell was that?" Tobi says, a frown set on his face.

"I-um-I got worried." I say, scratching my head.

"Sure ya did." Ben calls. A smirk is placed on his lips. I glare at him.

"Watch what you say, Ben. I am watching you." He smirks again before sending me a wink and heading out for patrol. Hunter follows behind. Kiely comes down stairs.

"Gosh. You guys are annoying." I shake my head.

"I'm going upstairs to get dress." I head up the stairs and into Raine's room. I grab my clothes and change really fast.

I open the door to find Raine standing there. Her hand mid-knock. Her face heats up.

"I'm sorry. I just need clothes."

"It is your room, Raine. You can walk in. We're both girls." I say with a shrug. I grab my boots before heading downstairs. I slip the boots on and stand up.

"Let's go mate hunting." I say with a frown. I wait on Raine to get down here. I want her to come with. She comes downstairs. I smile at her.

"Want to come with me?" I ask her. She looks behind her.

"Oh. Yeah. Sure." She says, blushing more. I wrap my arm around her shoulders. She somewhat melts into my side.

"Come on then." We head out of the house and walk down the street. The Alpha's house isn't far. Usually packs are really packed together.

"Where do you want to go first?"

"I think the Alpha would like to know I'm snooping around the town so he can tell the pack." I say with a chuckle.

"Nah, I think it would be better if you don't warn them and they figure it out on their own." I shake my head.

"That sounds evil." She shrugs. "I like it." We head into town. I made eye contact with a lot of people. None of them made me feel different. We make it to a park and I plop down on a bench.

"I'm never going to find him." I whisper.

"Hey. Don't loose hope. He's out there."

"I have one other pack to check. One! If that one doesn't have it, I have to marry someone I don't love." I put my head into my hands.

"You'll find him." She pats my back. It was around 5 in the afternoon after we searched the whole town.

"Have dinner with me, will you?" I ask her. She nods. We walk into a small diner and sit in a booth. A waitress orders our food and we sit in a comfortable silence. I pull out my camera. It was a small Polaroid camera. I like the classic type of camera. But I do have a Canon at the house.

I hold it up and click. Her head snaps up at the sound.

"Did you just... Take a picture of me?" She asks, completely shock. I nod my head and grab the picture from the camera. I shake it and let it sit for a minute. The picture finally pops up and I look at the photo. I hand her it. She looks at it.

"Wow." She whispers.

"It's going on my wall."

"Wall?"

"I take pictures a lot and the ones I really like, I put on my wall."

"You like it?" I nod. I put the camera up and the picture away. Our food arrives and I take start eating. We eat in a comfortable silence before I pay for the bill and we leave.

"You know, I could've payed for myself."

"I don't doubt you could. But it was my treat." I smile at her and she blushes. We head back to the house and as soon as we walk in, we meet a wall.

Tobi, Ben, Karla, and Kiely line in front of us.

"Where have you two been?"

"I was mate hunting and Raine, here, agreed to come with." They exchange glances.

"Are you hungry?"

"No, I took her out for dinner." I say. I watch Kiely and Tobi exchange a glance but I couldn't catch what they mean. I shake my head.

"I'm tired, now, though. Tomorrow I'll be going for a run. I need the strength." I yawn and drag Raine upstairs with me. I change and start taking out piercings. I see Raine blushing a little.

"What's the matter?"

"You just changed in front of me without warning."

"Sorry. I'm use to changing in front of people." I smile to her. I drop my hip-bone rings into a jewelry box I carry with me. I take out my belly button ring and nose ring. I then remove my earrings.

"That's a pretty necklace." She states when she walks out of the bathroom.

"Yeah." I whisper. I leave it on. It was the last gift she ever gave me. I cherish it most. It's a heart with different patterns on it. I crawl into the bed and turn my back towards her.

"Good night." We whisper to each other before we both fall asleep.
