Valentina's pov

"Father, it's my first day. I couldn't have possibility found my mate yet." I say with the roll of my eyes. I'm pacing in Raine's room with my phone pressed to my ear.

"Val, you don't have much time." I bite my lip.

"I know. But I have to go." I heard the door open downstairs and a new smell of a female comes through the house.

"Val, wait-"

"Oh no, I'm losing connection, Bye!" I hang up before shaking my head. I head downstairs. I see a shy looking girl hugged tightly to Tobi. I felt something inside me bubble around a little. But I choose to ignore it.

"Hello, you must be Raine. I have heard so much about you." I say with a friendly smile. I look into her eyes and the bubbly feeling comes back. But, again, I choose to ignore it.

"Hello." She says back. Her voice sounds soft and fragile. It sounds like the way she looks.

"It's a pleasure to meet you. Tobi, here, has told me a lot about you."

"Likewise." I nod towards her.

"I don't mean to intrude on your space though. I will leave the room at your desire."

"Oh, no, that's fine. You are the princess." I cringe as she calls me that.

"She's also a friend. Maybe you two can bunk tonight. I'll bunk with Ben. So it's less awkward." Raine turns towards him really fast as if he's insane.

"I second it." Ben calls. I glare at my friend.

"You just don't want my scent on you, you prick." Ben laughs and shrugs.

"It's true." I shake my head.

"Raine, you don't have to bunk with me. I will sleep on the couch." She quickly shakes her head.

"You can't sleep on a couch. I'll.. I'll bunk with you. It's no trouble." I nod towards her. Karla yells for everyone for food. I take a whiff and smell spaghetti. All of us teenagers race inside.

"Here's your bowls, go sit and eat." she says in a motherly command. We sit around the table and dig in. I keep glancing towards the smaller female who sat across the table from me. She looks so small and fragile.

Get her out of your head. You're looking for your mate. Your strong, male mate.

"Val, sweetie, what's wrong? You stopped eating..." I look down at my food.

"I'm-uh- I'm not hungry anymore. Thank you for the meal. Now, if you excuse me, I'll be heading to bed." I look towards Raine who goes to grab my plate after I stand up. I grab my bowl first. "Raine, will you join me?" She nods her head, looking at me through her lashes. I take my bowl to the kitchen with Raine. We put our dishes in the sink before heading upstairs.

"Does that hurt?" she asks, looking at my hip. I shake my head.

"Not anymore. It's just a piercing." I could feel her stare on my body as we head into her room.

"Have you found your mate yet?"

"Do you think I'd be here if I had?" I raise an eyebrow at her. She purses her lips together.

"Makes senses." She grabs clothes to change into. I watch as she heads into the bathroom. I am still in my crop-top and sweats, which I will sleep in. She returns in a tank-top and sweats. I've got to say, she looks good in them.

Shut up, brain.

" What are you staring at?" She asks, her cheeks seem to heat up. I coo internally at her.

"Um, I just zoned out." She nods before climbing into the bed beside me. I braid my hair really fast. It's better to control that way.

We sit in a tense, awkward atmosphere. She yawns like a kitten after a minute or two. I coo.

"Does the kitten need a nap?" She glares at me, making me laughing. "I'm kidding. Gesh." She giggles slightly.

"I'm actually very tired. This was a nice chat though. Goodnight Valentina." I smile at the sound of my name rolling off her tongue.

No. Stop. Scarlett, stop all these thoughts. Do not let them in my brain. Scarlett listens for once. She keeps my brain at bay. We snuggle into the bed and away from each other. I really don't want to push her. I know nothing about her. It scares me. I'm not use to this. A girl has never once in my mind been more then a friendly way adorable. I sigh and shove my face into the pillow. I slowly fall into a soundless sleep.
