The car ride up to the town was now silent, everyone scared to make a comment. I still sat not regretting what I did knowing that if I didn't he could have killed someone else or been killed worse. I hadn't heard of this town that they were talking about, apparently most people evacuated from it about a week after the apocalypse broke out, if that was true then it may still have some type of food and even somewhere safe.
We had a small trail of the undead behind us slowly following the sound which Joe quickly took out with a baseball bat hidden in the back of the car.
"We're nearly there but if it's as bad as the city we'll have to leave it until we have more ammo and more people" Mark explained "I've also brought a couple of things that you can use to hit one of their heads in if you have to"
It took about 5 minutes before we saw some sort of town, but it wasn't like anything we'd seen in months. The buildings looked perfectly fine like there was no sign of an apocalypse, the streets were clean and mostly empty with the odd roaming corpse trying to find its next meal. It wasn't a big town; if anything it was small but most of the buildings looked safe and like they had never been touched.
As we stepped out of the car right in front of a big street filled with shops and houses everyone looked out in amazement because how lucky it was that nobody came here or tried to keep it safe themselves. Andre said he would stay at the car to make sure we could get away if we had to but I think everyone knew he was scared of someone taking it or it getting wrecked by the undead.
Mark, Joe and I set off towards a small supermarket on the end of the road, We took all the precautions before going in: Look through the windows, knock on the back door just in case someone was inside but it was all very unlikely as all the lights were off and there was still food inside. The only problem was how would we get in? The back door was locked and if we tried to smash a window it would only cause more attention.
"I've got an idea" Mark whispers "Do any of you have a paperclip?"
We reached into our pockets and bags and luckily right in the bottom of my bag was a small paperclip. "Got one!" I say as I pass it to him.
Then out of nowhere he started to reshape the clip into a small curved key shaped item which he used to pick the lock, he didn't want to tell us where he learn't that but by the look on his face he wasn't pleased that he knew how to do it.
As we got in the store was pretty much filled with food with was reasonably in date and safe to eat. Each of us pulled out small bags and started to get anything worth getting, while the others were in the front of the shop I went back into the backrooms where I found even more boxes which we could take. Everyone seemed happier than ever to get this food, It was like a massive weight being taken off us and letting us know our families will eat tonight.
I was about to tell everyone that we should probably be going when at one of the front windows of the store appeared one of the undead, none of us got scared until about twenty more of them started to pile up at the doors and windows trying to get into the store. Joe signaled that we should go out the back door which seemed fairly logical but as soon as I opened the back door more of them were outside there waiting.
"Shit" Mark shouted as I slammed the door shut with several hits against it by the ones trying to get in "Where do we go now?"
"Just stay here till they disappear, it won't take long" Joe said before sitting down and pulling out one of the chocolate bars he had found a minute before.
The minutes slowly turned into hours and still no sign of them going away or Andre coming to help, We wasn't sure if he was just thinking we were taking a while or worse: He got bit himself and there's no way of him helping us.
