The car pulled up near the corpses, I had no idea if they knew if I was alive or even here. I saw two people step out and from what I could see they were holding rifles and stepping round the dead. I tried to stay still and look as dead as possible and some how it seemed like it was working, they were just walking around me trying to find some reason for the bodies. They stared to come together round the car when they both stood right in front of me. I thought that they were just wondering about my body but apparently not.

"are you going to get up?" One of them said while looking at me with his hand out for me to grab. I accepted and let him help me up to my feet.

"What are you doing out here on the floor?" The other asked as he rummaged through some of the bodies trying to find something.

"I fell and I couldn't get up because of my arm" I answered as I waved my bandaged stub in the air.

"Shit. how did you end up with that?" The second one asked again

"I got bitten, luckily I was able to cut it off before it spread"

The conversation didn't go on for long, it was getting dark and they wanted to take me back to their group which I wasn't too sure about but right now I didn't have much of a chance and they were trying to be nice so I trusted them enough for them to take me there. The drive was long and it took us through many different paths and secret entrances until we made it to a big wall with people guarding it holding rifles.

They let us through my opening a gate and inside was something I hadn't seen for months. People were everywhere and it was just like one of the streets before the apocalypse, kids were playing in the streets but there was no sign of Jason. I knew at this point that this is where we were all heading but as I looked around there wasn't any of our people.

I sat in the car thinking if they made it when the two people opened their doors in front of a big block of flats. "This is where you'll be staying" One of them told me as he shut the door and pulled out my backpack from the car. We walked into a lobby area where there was more people just hanging around where in the corner of the room was somebody I didn't expect to see.

Joe was just sat there half asleep with a cigarette in his mouth and his shotgun slightly placed next to him as he looked up into the roof. I walked over without him noticing and sat next to him thinking where the others were while at the same time he was still sat there not realizing that I was even here. I was thinking of what to say, I wanted it to be funny but at the same time meaningful as this man though I was probably dead for the past few days and one of the people I've trusted most through this whole thing.

"You took your fucking time didn't you?" Joe grunted

"How did you know it's me, you haven't been looking ahead for ages?" I questioned

"I've told you before I know the sound of your footsteps. With all the silence I actually thought you were one of the infected"

"I was trying to think what to say"

"Well 'Hello Joe sorry I took so bloody long' would have worked"

"Are the others here?" I asked

"Yep. We're all on the third floor, they even saved a space for you. funnily enough theirs room for everyone"

After a bit of explaining about my arm and why it took me so long I decided to leave Joe and go to find everyone else. I didn't know why but this place felt safe, it felt like people could finally rebuild society here. I knew as soon as I got to the top of these stairs I had finally done it and I had finally got back to the people I left.

As I stepped into a hallway with numbers of doors on I remembered hearing Joe say that most people were staying in room 13 and I didn't even decide to knock, I walked in and everybody's heads turned, some were shocked and others were just plain happy to see me alive. Jason run up to me and hugged me with Laura not long behind him. I had finally made it back to a safe place with the people I know. I hardly knew how they made it here alive but I didn't care, all I did care about is that they were alive and safe.

I said when we first made it to the farm months ago that because we now had people and shelter we were survivors but what I didn't realize is that it was those people and the things we had to go through that made us survivors, before we were just scared in a new world filled with fear and pain but now that we are safe with more people like us and with more people that can live with us.

We are finally. Survivors.
