Two months later

"No, I'm serious! They were talking about a war!"

"With who?" I roll my eyes. "Our country and its allies haven't been in a war against the other countries in decades!"

"They're going to take over the other countries. Then the allies."

"What?" Shaun stares. "You're not serious."

"I heard what I heard!" Jen says defensively.

"How do they think they're gonna do that?"

"With us."

*************************

"Yes, it is true," a scientist says solemnly. It's been three days since the rumour of the wars were spread by us, not wanting to confront the people in charge ourselves.

A confused chatter fills the air, a familiar sound to me now.

"Quiet please!"

"We will answer your questions if you SHUT UP!" Alex joins the scientist on stage, looking aggravated as usual.

It only takes a few seconds for the twenty eight of us to quiet down. Before, when there was hundreds of us, it took almost a whole minute. Sometimes more actually.

A few dumb, unimportant questions are answered first. What nation are you attacking first? Is that why we were given the abilities? What if we lose?

Finally, Anna raises her hand. Now we know it's going to be a valid question.

"Yes, Anna?"

"If you tested us to see that we were worthy of the abilities, what makes you think we'd fight for you? After all, aren't we good people?" She says defiantly.

"Well that's the thing, we tested for loyalty too, didn't we?"

"Yes..."

"I'd be pretty loyal to the people who gave me such powers. Wouldn't you?"

Anna doesn't answer, but many other people do.

"Yeah! We fight!" A few cheer.

"So then that settles it I suppose. We'll talk to you more about this in a few days. Have a great day, soldiers."

"I'm NOT a soldier," I say in a angry whisper.

"Me neither," Bree whispers up at me. "What do we do?"

"We find out who else isn't going to kill innocent people."

"And then?"

"Then we make sure we're not gotten rid of."

********************

Melody paces around our room, staring at each and every one of us. "Aria, Jennifer, Anna, Bree, Nate, Shaun, Jason, Erik, me. Nine. Nine against nineteen. Plus normal security and soldiers."

"Okay, I'm sure lots of others are on our side," Nate reasons. "We know these guys. They're decent people. Mostly..."

"And how will we find out who is and who isn't? Just walk up and be like, 'hey, we're rebels! How about you?'"

"No, we ask how they feel about it. I guess?"

"They could lie though so they're not in trouble," Jason sighs.

"Wait," Jen just jumps up off her bed. "Aria, the lie guy!"

"Lie guy?" Shaun raises an eyebrow.

"You're right!" Anna says, a bit too loud.

"He has a name you know," I roll my eyes.

"Spanish lie guy?" Jen grins.

I roll my eyes. "I'll go find him."

"Who are they talking about though?" Nate frowns.

"Jack," Anna replies to him.

"Thought he was the guy that turns into metal?"

"Yeah, that too. I'll be back," I leave the room without hearing a response.

I walk around for a while looking for Jack. He wasn't in his room, and his roommates don't know where he went. I check the glass medical rooms we used to be in, and then the practice rooms. I find him in the very last one. As I step in, my footstep makes a sound.

"What do you want?" He turns around just after I fade to invisible. "Huh?"

I walk closer, and he turns to metal as a defensive action. "Calm down," I whisper.

"Hope," he turns back to his normal, human form. "Where are you?"

He's been calling me by my middle name ever since I told him what it is.

"Here," I grin.

He folds his arms across his chest. "You're the only one who thinks that's funny. We literally have a group called 'don't you hate when Aria turns invisible thinking she's being oh so funny'."

"Fine," I roll my eyes and turn back. "I need to talk to you."

"About the war."

"Yes... About the war."

"Do you want to fight?"

"That's what I'm here to ask you," I reply stiffly. "Stop trying to read me."

"No. I don't," he says honestly.

"Be careful with that opinion," I warn. "I wouldn't go around telling everyone."

"You wouldn't, but I'm guessing you agree."

"I do," I say after a minute.

"Glad we're on the same page, Hope."

"So I need your help."

"With?"

"I need to know who does and who doesn't want to go along with their whole making us super soldiers thing."

"Well, we already kind of were made to be super soldiers."

"Jack."

"Okay. I'll help. But first, I'm asking your friends."

"You can trust my friends."

"You can trust your friends. I haven't come to that conclusion."

"Fine," I sigh. "Come on then."

***********************

"Okay, I believe you," Jack looks up at me after interrogating my friends.

"So you're done?"

"Yeah. I'm done."

"Good," I nod and turn away. "Let's go find out who else wants to disobey our terrifyingly powerful government..."

"Saying that doesn't help keep us on your side," Anna teases.

"Keeping it real," I smirk. "Wouldn't want you to get overconfident."
