Michael moves a step closer to me, his forehead now resting on mine.

"Kate, I'm sorry." He whispers, his mouth lightly touching my ear, giving me shivers.

"It's okay Michael."

"I... I have something to tell you."

"Yeah?" My heart speeds up a little faster, the possibilities to what he is about to say are endless.

"I love you."

"You can't." My voice breaks, already trying to fight back tears. All of the memories come flooding back to me in a wave of sadness. I should be happy shouldn't I? The person I have tried to get to love me again finally did! So why aren't I happy?

"But I do Kate."

"If you love me, why would you hurt me?" I step farther away from him, and look into his hurt eyes.

"I didn't mean to."

"You know full well what you did Michael."

"I'm sorry okay?" He seems sincere, but I don't fall for it considering he has seemed "sincere" before, only to turn around and lie.

"And what makes you think i'm gonna believe that Michael?"

"I never told Penny I loved her."

"Good for you. She's a slut." I chuckle, leaning against the cold concrete wall of the drab room

"Hey, I dated Penny. Don't say that about her."

"Are you seriously defending her? I'm done Michael. Have fun in this psych ward." I walk out and slam the door, any respect I had left for that boy now gone.

Ash is in the parking lot waiting for me, one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the radio dial, trying to switch channels. I open the door and plop into the passengers seat, waiting for Ashton to settle on a station. He finally chooses some weird folk one, and turns to me.

"You look like hell."

"Yeah, thanks." I roll my eyes, slamming the car door.

"What happened in there?"

"I lost all my respect for michael."

"Ah." He turns down the music and pulls out of the parking lot.

"Can we please go home and watch Mean Girls? Oh and eat ice cream?"

"Wow you are such a common white girl. OOOH WHERE IS THE NEAREST STARBUCKS? I NEED MY DOUBLE MOCHA FRAPPE! LITTLE ICE, HEAVY ON THE CREAM BUT WITH NONFAT WHIP." Ashton screams in a high pitch girly voice, probably injuring both our ears.

"Is that even a thing?"

"Nope. It should be though."

"True. So can we go home?" I flip through the channels, looking for something other than random songs with no meaning.

"No."

"Why not?"

"Someone promised me a kangaroo." His elbow nudges mine, telling me that I'm the "someone" he was referring to.

"I am not going to get you a kangaroo Ash."

"Well then I'm gonna have to ask your sorry ass to get out of my car."

"You wouldn't." Slowly Ashton pulls to a stop, the engine humming over the quiet punk music now playing.

He opens the door, and smirks. "Try me."
