October 5th, 2019: A Familiar Place

Me and Michael have been together for around five years now. Yeah we would have our fights here and there, but overall I was blessed to have him in my life. We settled into California shortly after our fight, living in a small apartment while I attended a community college. I was almost done with schooling, nearly a few weeks away from getting my masters degree for teaching. Me and Michael loved Cali, but came to see Luke every once in awhile. He had been seeing a girl for around the same time as Michael and I, but he popped the question to her about a month ago.

"That's our flight babe." Michael nuzzles his nose into my collarbone, causing me to laugh from the tickling sensation.

Michael had been planning to take me back to Oregon for awhile, but had to have it delayed for some reason that is unknown to me.

We grabbed our luggage and headed onto the plane, where I promptly shoved my shit into a storage area and sat down. Within minutes, my eyes grew tired from lack of sleep, considering I was constantly up till 1:00am studying for whatever test I had the next week. Just as my eyes grew heavy, my head drifted to the side where I came in contact with Michaels broad shoulder, falling into a peaceful rest.

-

"Do you know where we are?" Me and Michael had gotten off of the plane awhile ago, where we greeted Luke, dropped off our bags at his house, and now we are some place I don't remember.

The scenery was a mix of vibrant reds and yellows, scattered throughout the ground in a mess of fall colors. Trees grew bold and strong, and as I neared closer to the spot, my mouth fell open. It was the exact place where we had my favorite date. Under that tree.

"It can't be." I breathe. Michael seems to hear me and nods reassuringly.

A blanket is layed out at the top of the hill, being held down by a few candles and a guitar. My lips form a smile at the sight, considering it was my favorite guitar of his.

-

The night went on sharing memories and laughing in that same space we once had before. Michael had played a series of songs, some even making me cry. Silence filled the air until he repositioned himself on the blanket, reaching out to grab something from his pocket. Slowly he reveals what he has been trying to grab and my mouth drops. It's a ring box.

"Oh my god."

He gets down on one knee, opening the box to reveal a breathtakingly beautiful diamond ring.

"Kate Miles. I have known you for so long, and my love for you grows every day. Ever since I saw you that day at school, your blonde hair frizzing all over the place, your eyes sparkling like the brightest star I had ever seen. That day I knew I had to have you or I'd die. I know we have had our rough patches, but I swear to God I will spend the rest of my life making yours perfect. If you say yes, I would not only be marrying the love of my life, but my best friend. So, Kate Miles, would you marry me?"

Tears sting both our eyes as he breathes the last sentence. My head bobs profusely and I utter countless yes's at him, before pulling him into a hug and kissing him hard. My life was finally complete.

June 18th, 2020: Luke's wedding

A bouquet of flowers is held tightly in my hand, red roses tucked in every possible crevice. My hair is tied up in a tight bun, looking crisp and clean for the occasion. I have on a sparkly lace dress that fits snug, showing off my newly formed baby bump. I arrive at the back room where all the bridesmaids are getting ready. It seems as if all hell had broke loose in the room, considering the bride is minutes from walking down the isle.
