A fanfiction on Wattpad that's not about One Direction? Yes! I haven't seen many Doctor Who fanfictions here on Wattpad, so when I saw this one advertised in the fan fiction club, I decided it would be nice to read something different.

I don't consider myself a Whovian, but I have seen enough episodes of the show to be familiar with the concept and with the character of the eleventh doctor (the one featured in this story). Still, for those unfamiliar with Doctor Who, this story shouldn't be too difficult to read, since most things are explained at least briefly.

The Memory Box is about a girl named Allora Jackson, who wakes up in a strange room without windows or doors. She has no idea how she's gotten there, and, even worse, she soon finds that she's lost all her memories from the past three years, including her travels with a man who calls himself "the doctor." Who did this to her and why?

To start off with, there were a bunch of typos and errors in this one. Definitely not the worst I've seen, but there were enough that I found them a bit annoying. Particularly the fact that the author used "u" instead of "you" a couple times. Also, she used the word "plurality" when I'm pretty sure she meant "polarity", and having a mother call a child "sweaty" threw me for a minute before I realized she must have meant "sweetie". But I'm sure some readers would be able to move past these sorts of things with no problem.

The author also puts a bit of a twist on her chosen villains in terms of adding on to what the show has said about them. I didn't really mind, but if you're a really hard-core Whovian who can't stand to see elements that aren't strictly canon, you may want to try a different story.

What I liked the most about this story is that the author really seemed to get the character of the eleventh doctor just right. I haven't seen all of the episodes with him in them, but nothing he did seemed jarring or out of character, and certain actions and bits of dialogue just seemed absolutely perfect. In my opinion, the personalities of the borrowed characters are the one most important thing to get right in a fanfiction, and it's very rare (in my experience) to see a piece that gets it right.

Beyond that, it's really a simple story, short and to the point. There aren't many details about anything, and the descriptions tend to be very basic. The focus is really on what happens, and, beyond that, there's not much depth. As I said, a simple story, but, if that's all it was aiming to be, it works out just fine.

The reason that it works is that it has a well-constructed plot. Right off the bat, it has action, and events continue to unfold at a good pace to keep the reader's interest up. The plot builds up to the conclusion, and returning memories and explanations come in just the right places. This, combined with the good use of characters, makes for a quick and entertaining read.
