Unusual Kind is about a vampire named Cassie who is just going about her business and trying trying to fight her desire to kill people and suck their blood when an enounter with an older vampire leads to her getting handcuffed and tossed into a trunk. Just like that, she's swept up with the vampires who call themselves enforcers and their plans.

This book only has six parts so far, but I think it's a solid start. The plot was definitely interesting and exciting, and I think that's it's biggest strength. It made me want to keep reading from almost the very beginning and had a nice balance of action.

The first paragraph of the story did confuse me a bit because I didn't know from the description whether the main character was a vampire or part of some other supernatural race in a world with vampires in it. She says that it's better to shop when it's not too crowded and describes feeling revulsion at the thought of a parade, but she also expresses concern about getting out of there alive. That makes me think she's possibly the one in danger and not the one who could be the danger to others. It's not until the third paragraph that we learn she finds the smell of humans delicious, which is the real giveaway. Not a big deal, but it's good to start a book out as well as possible.

I also wasn't sure about some of the mechanics of this world. I wondered whether vampires were common, whether ordinary people knew about their existence, and whether it is generally considered acceptable among vampires to eat people. Knowing the answers to at least a few of these things would have colored my understanding of the encounter with the older vampire. We also learn later that there are some significant differences between older vampires and younger ones, which meant that the "rules" for vampires don't work they way I had expected. A bit of clarification on these points would be nice as well to give the reader some basic footing.

I noticed at least a few examples of misspellings --  the kind that spell check won't catch because they're real words but the wrong ones for the sentence, like "talk" instead of "tall" and "conscious" instead of "conscience". I also noticed some missing commas. It could use some basic editing, but it wasn't too bad.

It's a little early in the story to say much more about it yet. I'm not sure whether the author plans on updating it again soon, but, as I said, it seems to be a decent start.
