I see the same man that killed me being tortured. Jay's father is laying in a dark place and I feel a shiver go up my spine from seeing such brutality. He has many marks and gashes on his back where blood is oozing. His face is almost unrecognizable. I can't see his attacker but he looks broken and defeated. I see that his ankles are tied and his wrists are tied and held behind his back by a rough looking rope. He doesn't move which makes me wonder if he is still alive. Can he be killed, or just tortured enough to go to his final destination and never return, leaving just the body that I am seeing behind? Maybe he is dead, more dead than usual that is.
I was horrified. I knew that Jay was not fond of his father but I also knew that he needed his father alive. If his father was no longer alive, then Jay would have to be the one to rule the Underworld. As the image of his father's lifeless body still plastered my field of vision, everything came clear to me. Someone had captured his father and was holding him captive, and if we did not move soon, then he would end up like this. Completely dead, and unable to rule. That is why Jay is in the Underworld. He had to take the position of king while his father is absent.
I gasped and shut my eyes tightly. "Kayce!" I now heard Kyle yelling my name as I opened my eyes and saw that I was back in his living room. "Are you alright? Do I need to call 911?" He said as he nervously held me. I shook my head.
"No, Kyle I'm fine. I just got a head ache." I said which was a huge understatement. I knew I had to get back home and quickly. I had to tell Jay, if he didn't already know. I knew that my visions were of the future, but I also knew that they were subject to change. They only show the current course of the future, if no one fights to change it. That was exactly what we had to do, we had to fight. I didn't know what to fight for though. I couldn't see the attacker or the person holding him hostage, so who would we fight, and how?
"Here." Kyle said handing me some water. I hadn't even noticed him getting up. I took the cold glass and thanked him.
I had to call Alix. I picked up my phone and quickly dialed her number. "I just have to make a phone call. I'm going to go outside where the reception is better." I told Kyle as I quickly left the apartment and ran down the stairs to go outside to the woods by his apartment.
"Hello?" Alix answered.
"Alix. I know what's wrong with Jay. I had a vision. I know what is happening in the Underworld. It's awful! Where is Jay? I need to see him now!" I said.
"What? Kayce you need to come home now. Tell Kyle that you just have to leave. We need to go to Jay." She said and hung up. I felt panicked and terrified, I froze in my tracks.
I ran back upstairs and quickly packed all of my things. I heard footsteps and soon Kyle was in the living room.
"Kayce? Are you going somewhere?" He asked and I nodded but continued packing.
"I'm so sorry Kyle. Thank you for letting me stay here but I have to go home now. I will talk to you soon and I will come visit really soon. I promise, but right now I have to go." I said and slung my bag over my shoulder.
"Um okay. Are they here to pick you up?" He asked.
"Yes. They're outside."
"It's late, why don't you all just stay and drive back in the morning?" His logical questions were not making things easy for me.
"Oh no we are just going to go to the airport and fly back. There's a cab outside." I lied. I didn't have time for planes or cabs, I had to flash back to Alaska.
"I thought they were here?" He asked as he watched me walk towards the door.
"Oh no. I meant they as in the cab driver." I hoped he wouldn't question me further. I wasn't good at the on the spot lies yet, but I would have years and years to practice.
"Oh alright. Let me come walk you out."
"No!" I said too fiercely. "I mean it's okay. I will just go. Head to bed Ky, it's late. I will see you soon, I promise. Thank you for everything" I said hugging him tightly and running out the door. I bolted back down the stairs and back into the woods with my bags. As soon as I could no longer see the building, I closed my eyes and felt the wind whip my hair into my face.
I opened my eyes and I was on the porch of our luxurious Alaskan house. I ran inside and saw Alix and Seth pacing, waiting for my arrival.
"Kayce, what was your vision?" Seth said quickly. I let my bags drop at my feet as I recalled the traumatizing scene.
"Jay's father was being held captive and tortured. I think whoever did it killed him. He isn't ruling the Underworld now and that is why Jay has to be there. I figured it out. We have to save his father before he gets killed of Jay will have to rule forever. I can't let that happen to him. It is the one thing he never wants to do." I quickly explained.
"Oh no!" Alix said. I looked to both of them for answers as to what we should do but they looked about as confused as I felt. Seth sighed and spoke.
"We have to go to the Underworld, now." Seth said.
"Wait! Why would we just go there now? We have no idea where Jay is or what he is doing." I said. From being there before, I could tell that the Underworld was a very large place, and walking around aimlessly there would do nothing but waste time.
"Kayce, he is in the castle, remember?" Alix said. I had forgotten about the famous Underworld Castle. I didn't see it when I was down there, so I wondered where it was.
"Right. I never saw the castle. Do you guys know where it is?" I asked.
"Of course we do! Let's go." Seth said grabbing my hand and I quickly grabbed my bag as I blinked I saw the flash of bright light and once again, felt the wind whisk my fair all around my face. When my eyes opened again, I saw the familiar red hue of the environment around me. The unique smell of fire and rain. The hundreds of lines of confused, sad, and angry people. The people dressed like they belonged back in the middle-ages were guards that were patrolling on both horse and foot with their various weapons. Guns, large knives or swords, bows and arrows all slung on straps around their bodies. And they all wore tall black boots ready for combat. Similar to what Jay often wore.
I was in the Underworld.
"Okay, where is he?" I asked looking around frantically.
"There." Seth pointed up to the castle. Black and grey stones, piling high, at least six stories. The peak of the tower was pointed and a stone black raven sat on the point of the castle. There was a window in this peak room that I assumed belonged to Jay's father. "Let's go." He said as we ran. I thought I would run out of breath but that was virtually impossible. All I could think about was Jay, miserably ruling this horridly morbid place for the rest of his existence. I didn't fully understand my power yet, but I really didn't understand why I couldn't see past who was hurting Jay's father. We reached the castle gates and guards, at least as tall as Jay if not taller, stood in front of us.
"Hello Gerald, John, we must get inside to see Jay."Alix said smoothly. These guys intimidated me, even in my immortal state. They were dressed in tall black boots and all black like everyone else here, but they had much more muscle on them.
"Of course Miss Alix. Who is this with the two of you?" Gerald asked eyeing me from head to toe. I didn't dare to look up at him while he examined me. I couldn't get my mind around what was blocking my vision. Maybe I could try to see it again. Being unable to control these visions is so beyond frustrating.
"This is Kayce Lewis, Jay's mate." She introduced and I shyly smiled. He widened his eyes and both men bowed their heads to me.
"Welcome Miss Kayce. Mr. Harrison is in the King's Den. Martha will show you up when you enter. Have a nice visit." He said as the loud and heavy steel gates swung open and we quickly picked our pace back up and jogged into the castle without looking back.
