Jay took out his knife and began cutting the thick ropes holding his fathers arms behind his back.
"Jay, why are you here?" His father asked. His pained voice was soft.
"We need to get you back to the castle before the entire world turns to chaos." Jay said as he broke through the rope, freeing his fathers arms and then he moved to free his legs.
"Look at me son." He said and Jay stopped, looking shocked up at his father. "I am in no shape to rule anymore. I am getting ready to move on." His words were slow and faint. "My time has come Jay. The furies have gotten me and now I am too weak to continue. I need to go to my final resting place. But I have to say something first." He said as another large figure appeared behind Jay.
"Jay look out!" Seth said as he pounced on the figure taking it down to the ground as it made an ear piercing scream before evaporating. I was so wide eyed and terrified.
Another creature appeared, then another. They were multiplying and outnumbered us by far. I didn't think any of us would make it out alive from this. They were huge creatures with large mouths filled with razor teeth.
"Kayce...KAYCE!" I finally snapped out of my shock to hear Alix yelling at me.
"What?" I said looking at her.
"Use your necklace!" She said as she wacked a creature with her powerful forearm. I quickly remembered the beaded necklace Jay had given me this morning. I reached under the neckline of my dress and pulled out the beads. I held the necklace in front of my face with shaking hands. "Kayce, just touch them with the necklace and they will die. Quickly!" She said as she hit another one, followed by another horrible scream and a puff of smoke.
I ran over to the nearest creature to me and it screamed in my face. I jumped slightly before holding the beads in both of my hands and pressing it against the creatures chest. It made its screeching noise before evaporating like the rest of its friends. I stared at my hands and back up at the environment, shocked. I realized that there were at least 20 of them now, closing in on us, espicially Jay as he fought to free his father. I noticed one approaching him as he got the rope around his fathers legs free. I ran over to the beast and held the necklace to it, killing it.
Jay picked up his father and slug his arm over his shoulder as he aided him to walk to the carriage. Gerald jogged back to the carriage to get the horses ready to run us to safety.
Alix, Seth and I continued to fight the beasts as Jay and his father walked to the carriage. The beasts stopped fighting us and started moving towards Jay and his father. Worried for both of them we ran towards them.
"Jay! Look out!" Alix yelled as Jay turned and saw the beasts charging for him he picked up his pace. I charged after them hitting every fury I could with the necklace.
A fury reach Jay's father and ripped him from Jay's grasp. He turned shocked as the beast and his father fell to the ground.
"No!" Jay yelled as the beast scratched through his fathers chest, making him yell in pain. We all stopped fighting as the beasts were now disappearing on their own. The battle with the furies had ended, along with the Underworld life of Jay's father.
I slowly walked over to Jay who was kneeling next to his father's lifeless body with his hands covering his face. I kneeled down next to him and rubbed back.
"Jay, I'm so sorry." I said as I looked down at his father's defeated corpse.
"Kayc' it's okay. We tried our best, I just wish it was enough. I wish I was able to do more."
"I know. It will be okay. Are the furies gone?" I asked looking around.
"Yes. They did what they had to. Now they have left." Seth said as he and Alix walked back to the carriage.
