The dark building looked abandoned and run down. No noise came from the building which I took as a good sign that no one inside was being tortured.
"Where are we Jay?" Alix asked as we stepped out of the carriage.
"Do you remember the man who worked for my father the first time you guys arrived here? His name was Jefferson and he was a cruel employee. He whipped the newly deceased into lines and used brutal force on anyone who disobeyed him. He obeyed my father's every command. One day, my father realized that what Jefferson was doing to all the people was wrong. While the Underworld was very neat and tidy, it had a horrible atmosphere and if my father thought it was cruel, you know it was really bad. My father fired him and he ended up here about 20 years ago. I wanted to start here because I thought that maybe he held a grudge for my father dismissing him of his services. Finding jobs down here isn't exactly an easy thing to do. It's a small, tight knit world. I know I would be angry with my father had he fired me from the only good job down here. Perhaps he wanted to kill him so that he could take over the castle and run things his way. I don't know. Just a hunch."
"Geez, yeah I remember him! He was awful." Seth said. I've never met him because my grandparents probably were just being born at the time that he was down here. I felt so out of the loop.
"He is dangerous, but no one has spoken to him in years as far as I know." Jay said as he went to Gerald who was still sitting on the seat placed on the carriage behind the horses. He said something to him that I could not hear, but Gerald didn't move. "Okay. Let's go. We are just going to talk, ask questions. No violence unless he inflicts it first." Jay warned as he surprised me and grabbed me by my waist and passionately kissed me. "Remember what I said. If you feel scared, leave."
"Remember what I said. I won't leave you." I said and he shook his head and kissed me again.
"Alright. Let's go." He said as we all walked in. Alix and Seth walked behind Jay and I as we approached the small building. There was no door so we just entered. "Kayce, wait here." Jay whispered as he walked ahead of us. Seth rubbed my back as I nervously bit my lip.
"Jefferson? Are you here? It's Jay Harrison. I just wanted to talk to you, check in. None of us have heard from you in a very long time. Are you okay?" Jay called to a seemingly empty house. He looked back at us and we shrugged as we slowly walked around the caved in rooms of the house. It reeked of mold and I heard nothing but the sounds of our footsteps. "Hello? Jefferson?" Jay called as something ran from the side of the room and stood in front of Alix, Seth and I. It looked like an ungroomed cave man with bright red eyes. I couldn't help but scream from the startle and I instinctively punched the man in the chest. I was horrified. Seth pushed me out of the way and I flew back and smacked the wall as the man came over to me and I saw the glisten of a blade in his hand as it came down into my leg, hard. I screamed at the shock of being stabbed. As I blinked and opened my eyes again, the horrid man was no longer on me, but at the mercy of Jay who was holding him up off the floor by his neck. The man, who I assumed was Jefferson, was not touching the floor and Jay's eyes were glowing a harsh green color.
"Kayce, shit." Alix said as she came over to me. "You okay?" She asked and I actually was. I looked down at my leg and I wasn't bleeding as badly as I thought it was. It wasn't bleeding at all actually. I nodded and grabbed the knife as I slowly pulled it out I winced, but I was okay. I went wide eyed as I stared at the knife that I just nonchalantly ripped from the flesh of my thigh. "Whoa." Alix said as I sat, still in shock. I sighed and rubbed my thigh, that was hardly sore. It just felt like someone kicked a ball into my thigh, not like I just got stabbed. "Let me see that." Alix said taking the blade from me and examining it. "Kayce, you should be dead. Like actual, no turning back dead because we are already in the world of death so if you die here that's it. This is an Underworld instrument. Your leg should not even be attached to you right now. How are you not hurt?" She was looking at me like I had seven heads. I was horrified, but I wouldn't leave. I couldn't leave them.
