I was tearing open wolves right and left of me searching the air for the scent of Phoebe. Cass was behind me along with Quinn all of us searching for Phoebe. The first of us wolves held against the wave that seemed to keep hitting us, over and over again, it was an endless battle.

Soon we were through their first wave and we were on to the second wave, which were humans. I saw many of our warriors want to give up, but they didn't retreat: they couldn't. I knocked many of the humans over with the swipe of my long nose and they fell to the ground moaning in pain.

I was finally facing Alpha Daniel, we stared at each other, none of us backing down. I sneered at him, my long fangs bared. He looked amused then he rose his voice, "Stop!" he demanded with power in his voice as he rose a hand in the air. His wolves retreated behind their Alpha, "Judy is awake and would like to speak." Alpha's and Luna's had a strong emotional and mental bond, they could sense what one another was thinking, feeling, and doing, once they had finally mated.

My father walked forward with Judy in his arms, barely conscious. A wolf behind Daniel approached with Phoebe in his arms, her lifeless body laid limply in his arms. The sight made me want to rip his head off and feed in to mice. He was holding my beautiful mate and I wasn't.

I walked forward with my father and stood by his side, waiting for Daniel to make the first move. Judy became conscious in the time it took us to walk to Daniel. My father let her stand, but made sure to stay close to her. Daniel tried to come closer to her, but she held up a hand to stop him from advancing.

"I know none of you trust me, and, well, right now I wouldn't either. But trust me when I tell you that I can and I will get Phoebe back. I've made mistakes and I will honor Diana forever, I'm going to sacrifice myself for Phoebe. I had a vision while I was out, Phoebe took me to a cliff and she jumped to her death. After she fell I emerged from the water she had just fell into. I have to do this for my niece." Judy told the surrounding wolves with a small sad smile on her ancient face.

"Judyth don't do this!" Daniel pleaded coming closer, taking her hand in his, and kissing her cheek. Pain was etched deep into his wrinkled face. The hurt was evident in his tired voice as he begged his betrothed.

Judy smiled a sad and painful smile, "I, Judyth Lilian Rose Riley, hand over my title as Luna of the Tiber Wolfpack to the Luna next in line, Phoebe Ann Riley. May she protect, cherish, and love her pack and her mate." Judy said her eyes closed as she leaned against Daniel for support. "Velim mihi ignoscas quod luna." She whispered under her breath and then she was gone.

Daniel held his mate's lifeless body in his hands crying loudly. His body was shaking violently. Nobody looked at him, nobody wanted to feel the pain he was dwelling in right at the moment. He cradled Judy to his chest and rocked back and forth, the pain overbearing and overwhelming.

Over the sounds of cries for Luna Judy and bawling of Daniel, I heard the one thing my ears have been straining to hear since it stopped; the sound of blood flowing and a heart pumping.
