*Caitlin’s POV*

“Mummy, why are you leaving?”

“Oh sweetie, Mummy and Daddy don’t like each other anymore”

“Why are you taking my brother and sister? What about me?”

“Goodbye sweetie. Mummy will always love you”

“NO!! MUMMY DON’T LEAVE!” I screamed but it was too late. She drove off in her car taking my big brother and twin sister, leaving my world to come crumbling around me. Dad picked me up and placed me inside on the floor, his eyes full of anger.

“IT’S YOUR FAULT SHE LEFT. IT’S YOUR FAULT WE AREN’T A FAMILY ANYMORE!”

I didn’t know what to do. I sat there and just looked at him with sad eyes. His stare softened but then they turned dark. Suddenly my cheek felt like it was on fire. It took me a moment to realise what happened. He hit me. My own father hit me but it didn’t stop there it continued until I blacked out.

*10 years later*

I woke up and screamed. I looked around and hoped he hadn’t heard me. He didn’t. Thank God! I hated that dream well......flashback. It was the memory of when my life crumbled, broke and still is broken. I got to have a shower before he gets home because he won’t let me have one when he is home. I stopped and looked at my reflection. I didn’t like what i saw: it was a girl i didn’t like the person staring back. I was plastered in bruises and cuts. I reached out to touch the mirror but my arm hurt too much from what happened last night. He smashed me against a wall and held me over the stairs by my arm. I was happy, why can’t my life be happy again like when I was seven. I had a family and a father who cared. He abuses

I jumped as the door slam. Oh no. He’s home.

“CAITLIN” He yelled slurring his words. He is drunk again (wow big shocker, not)

I hesitantly rushed downstairs, preparing myself for what was about to come. I had 1 foot in the room and he slammed me up against a wall and smashed my head against it.

“It’s all your fault she left”

The same words he said to me every day. He pushed me to the ground causing me to fall on my wrist awkwardly. He left. I walked out to the kitchen to find him passed out on the floor.

I don’t know what happened but something clicked inside of me. This is my chance to escape. I grabbed my emergency backpack and quietly ran out of the door.
