Dan and Phil in Hogwarts (A Harry Potter Phan AU)

Chapter Ten

It hurts me to see Phil like this. It's been nearly a week since Dan broke up with him, and he only leaves the Hufflepuff common room for classes and food. Lily gives Peej and me updates on how he's doing, but even she isn't sure if he's okay.

He acts okay when we all hang out around the Whomping Willow, who Phil has now convinced us is friendly, until someone mentions the owlry or he sees Dan sitting on the grass not too far away. When that happens, it's best to just let him leave to the common room without a word.

I'm sitting in the stands of the Quidditch pitch right now, Pj's sat beside me. We are just enjoying the quiet. Dan and Phil spent most of their time in the owlry, we spent our time at the Quidditch stands.

"When are we gonna tell them?" I ask Pj.

"Tell who what?" He replies.

"Tell Dan and Phil and Lily that we're dating."

"Well I'm sure as hell not telling Dan anything. Phil and Lily? I think as soon as Phil starts acting like Phil again."

"Yea. He's taking the breakup really rough," I say.

Pj sighs. "Dan just... I don't get why he did it. 'I was being treated like a mudblood by my own housemates,' are you kidding me? That's not a good excuse."

"Peej," I say, trying to calm him down. "I'm sure Dan didn't know you were muggle born."

"It's not even that, though that did piss me off. It's just, Phil loved him so much and he won't even fight for his relationship."

I sighed. "Yea. Promise me you won't be like Dan? That you'll fight for our relationship?"

Pj turned to me and smiled. "I promise."

Phil sat next to me on the grass the next day. Chris and Lily had gone to go figure out when the next Hogsmeade was.

"So, Phil. How's your day been?"

"Pretty uneventful. McGonagal won't stop asking me what's wrong though. She says, 'It's obvious that something is wrong Mr. Lester. Let me help.' But whatever. She's nice even if it's my least favorite class."

McGonagal, who apparently knew that Dan and Phil had been a thing, wouldn't stop asking Chris and me what had happened. Apparently, she had been asking Phil, and probably Dan, as well.

"Hey Pj, I haven't talked to you in a while," I heard a voice say behind me. Phil tensed up beside me. "Hey, Phil." The voice said quietly.

Phil didn't say anything, he didn't turn around either. He didn't move. Actually, I'm not even sure if he was breathing.

"Hello, Dan." I replied. I hoped the formality of the greeting would show that we weren't on the best terms.

"What's up?" He asked, not getting the secret message I was trying to send.

"I'm doing w-" I started to say but was interupted when Phil stood up quickly and said,
"You know, Peej, I'm not feeling too good I think I might go to the common room."

Phil walked away, I could tell he was trying not to run. I could practically hear his sadness from this far away.

"What was that about?" Dan asked me.

I got angry. I stood up and turned around, not caring about how much of a scene this would cause. "You know bloody well what that was about, you backstabbing snake."

Dan took a step backward and put his hands up. "Peej, calm down."

"No, Daniel. You don't get to tell me what to do. You don't get to tell anyone what to do. You don't get to make Phil feel as awful as he does. You don't deserve to have the privilege of happiness while your boyfriend- and don't you dare say ex-boyfriend because I can tell you still love him, you still look at him the same way- withers away. He's hurting, Dan. You're out here with your 'friends' and he's here with us, crying into our shoulders because you were too scared to be there for him." I turned away and stormed off.

"One more thing," I said before continuing to walk away. "Don't call me Peej."
