I sat beside Silas at the edge of the cliff, watching as birds soared high above the ocean waters. The waves churned inside and out, crashing against the rock at the base of the cliff. I watched as the waves would wash back into the rest of the ocean, waiting to be tossed back against the wall of the cliff that we sit high above. Silas turned his lips into a brief smile as he glanced over at me.
"What?" I asked, a smile of my own spreading across my lips. He shook his head innocently as he turned his eyes back to the ocean. The waves reflected from his eyes like a mirror. A breeze traveled up the cliff and surrounding us, turning my hair into knots. Silas ran his fingers up my back as he picked gently at the knots with his fingers.
"You're just so damn beautiful," he responded as he continued to pick at the knots in my hair. I smiled again to myself, bringing my chin to my chest in shyness. My mind churned like the waves as I suddenly remembered Elijah. I wondered how long I would be here, wherever here is. I wasn't quite sure if it was some alternate universe or simply a memory that I had long forgotten.
"Silas?" I asked, courage finally spreading through me to find out what exactly this place was. Surely, he had to know. He was clearly someone that had been very close to me. Someone that I could trust. There was an inkling of doubt in my mind as I considered that he may be only a figment of my imagination that I had created in order to trick myself into believing this was a memory.
"Yes, Abigail?" He asked with a smile. He ran his fingers back down my back as the knots had been removed from my hair. He placed his palm on the cool rock below us before placing it on my own hand. I sucked in the fresh ocean air as I finally looked back over to me. He tilted his head slightly as he inspected me carefully.
"Abigail...." he whispered as he furrowed his thick brows, "are you okay?" I released the air from my chest as I nodded my head. "Yeah," I lied, "I'm fine, I just-" I stopped. What was I doing? What was this? "What am I doing here?" I asked, half expecting the question to only run across my mind and not my lips.
"I'm not sure I understand your question," he said with a shake of his head. He removed his hand from mine as he leaned back against invisible air. His lips formed a straight line as his eyes moved back to the ocean. He bit his bottom lip as he searched for his own answer, his own understanding. "I'm sorry," I muttered, "I don't know what I'm saying, or even doing anymore...."
"Abigail," he whispered, "do you regret me going through with the spell?" His question threw me off guard. His eyes turned from the sea and back over to me, who continued to sit beside him in a sort of state of shock. "Spell?" I murmured, my voice quiet. "Yes, spell...." he nodded as he furrowed his eyebrows again, "Abigail, have you hit your head or something? You're acting odd...."
"No," I spit out, "I haven't hit my head. It's nothing like that." He rose to his feet, his arms thrown across his chest. I pushed my own bare feet against the rock, standing in front of him as he helped me up. "It's Qetsiyah isn't it?" He asked as he nodded his head as if he had just answered his own question.
Qetsiyah. The familiarity of that name rushed through the blood in my veins. "Qetsiyah," I copied him, the name rolling off of my tongue the way that the waves below us were rolling off of the cliff. "Has she said something to you Abigail?" He asked, stepping towards me as he ran both of his hands up my arms. The touch of his hands ran along my body like a bolt of lightning.
"No," I said, unsure of whether or not I was telling the truth or lying. "Listen to me," he said as he placed his finger underneath my chin to raise my head up towards his. "Don't let her get to you," he smiled, "she'll do anything and everything to tear us apart from one another. You know that don't you?" I nodded my head, my stomach churning as memories of Elijah came shooting through my mind like an arrow off of a bow.
