It had been one day with no yelling, beatings, or me getting picked on.
"You've seemed happier since Jake left." My mom said smiling.
I smiled back at her. "I feel better about things. I don't have him hanging over my shoulder and beating me."
"I don't know why he did that." She said sighing.
"Cause he hated me." I said.
My mom sighed. "I'm sorry. If I had known sooner I would have divorced that son of bitch."
I looked at her. "But then we'd really have nothing. We'd be stuck in some crappy apartment downtown instead of the house we have."
"I know." She said pulling up the school.
"See you later mom." I say opening my door.
"Wait," she said.
I looked back at her. "Yeah?"
"Try and have a good day. Don't get into any fights, call teachers old hags, and just don't screw anything up."
I looked down. "Sure." I said sounding slightly hurt, since she thought I would fuck something up. "See you later."
----------
"How you holding up?" Calum asked me leaning against the locker next to me.
"What?" I said confused.
"With the second divorce and getting beat up again?"
I looked around making sure no one heard him. "Don't say that stuff so loud please." I said lowering my head.
"Well, how are you holding up." Calum insisted.
I shrugged. "Good, I guess." I said turning away from Calum and closing my locker.
Calum looked at me. "Bull shit."
I shook my head. "I hate you sometimes Calum."
"Tell me how you really feel." He demanded.
I rolled my eyes. "My dad called me on Saturday."
Calum looked at me surprised. "What did he say?"
"Not much. He wants me to go to New York for s few days."
Calum reached his arm pit and stopped me. "New York?" He said confused.
"Yeah, New York."
"I thought you didn't like his new wife."
"I don't but I want to see my dad more than I want to see her." I say. "I just want to see my dad."
"So, you're really going?"
I shrugged. "I don't know. We don't have the money for it. My mom can't afford to send me to New York."
"Maybe you and I can go together. Half and half for the trip."
I looked down. "I'll think about it." I say walking faster to my next class.
-------------
"You're late Mr. Clifford." My history teacher said to me as I walked in.
"I'm sorry. I got caught up in the hall." I said taking my seat in front of Luke.
"Hey Michael." He said quietly.
I turned to him. "Hey Luke." I said back.
"Mr. Clifford!" She yelled. "You cannot come into my class late and then talk to Mr. Hemmings."
"Ma'am it was my fault. I started talking to him." Luke said.
She looked at Luke surprised. "Well, thank you for telling me you started it."
I turned to Luke. "Why?"
"You've had a hard time already. Thought I'd help you a little." He said.
I smiled. "I was wrong about you Hemmings." I said.
"I was wrong about you too, Clifford." He said looking down at his paper.
I turned back around in my seat. Luke Hemmings the boy who hated me for years is finally talking to me.
------------
I sat there waiting for Calum at our lunch table. I slumped down in my seat reading the book I had to read for English class. Then I heard the click of plastic and metal. I looked up. It was Luke.
"Hey Luke." I said shocked.
He smiled. "Is this seat taken?" He asked sounding hurt.
"Yeah." I said sitting up. "What happened at your other table?"
Luke looked down. "They think I'm a loser now that I talk to you."
I looked down and bit my lip. Then I looked back up to Luke's old table of soccer jocks. They all laughed as I looked at them.
"Loser!" They all yelled.
I shook my head. "I'll see you later." I said standing up and grabbing my books.
I ran up the stairs to the bathroom. I bolted into the bathroom and leaned up against the wall. I broke down into tears.
"When will this end." I mumbled to myself. "When will this end. I want this to be over."
-------------
I didn't wait for Calum to walk home, so I was walking alone. I could hear people calling me names from across the street. I closed my eyes and tried to hold back the tears.
I stopped in my tracks and looked over to the people who were yelling at me. "Shut up! Shut the fuck up! I'm done with this shit! I'm fucking done!" Then I began to sprint back to my house.
--------
"I'm home!" I yelled waking into the hallway. I could hear laughing coming from the kitchen. "Mom?" I called.
"Michael, come in the kitchen someone's here to see you." My mom said.
I sighed and walked into the kitchen. "Who's here?" I said looking up.
I saw my mom and dad sitting at the kitchen table together. Both of them with smiles on their faces.
"Hey son."
My broken home was slowly piecing back together.
Note: OMG HIS DAD WTF OMG
Anyone notice the 5sos reference in this? Hint: it's a new song.
SGFG is fucking amazing for anyone who hasn't heard it yet. Literally I'm so happy for these 4 boys from Australia. This album makes me happy and I know that's what they wanted to achieve. I'm so happy for them, I just have no words for it.
I hope this didn't suck.
Hope to you liked it!
All the love- H
