Melody’s P.O.V
With Ashton following me around like a lost puppy, my popularity sky rocketed. People I hadn’t seen before stopped to say hi. I smiled graciously and said some form of greet but Ashton wasn’t very happy. He didn’t say anything but I could feel his annoyance. In art class, I pulled out my work and tied my apron on before Ashton could suggest anything.
“That’s gorgeous.” Ashton said and I smiled.
“Thank you.” I said and went back to working on my painting of the cottage.
“You know, Melody.” He said right in my ear. I jumped a foot into the air and grabbed at my chest, where my heart should be.
“You know, you could just call my name like a normal person.” I said and he gave me a cheeky smile.
“I could.” He said and leaned toward me “But then again, I’m not normal or a person.”
I rolled my eyes good humouredly. “So, what did you want?”
“To tell you that I own that cottage.” he replied simply. I cocked my head and furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.
“Repeat that. What do you mean by you own it?”
“I mean I own it. There is a place like that and there is a cottage like that and I happen to own it.” He said slowly as if I were a 3 year old.
“You’re lying.” I said and looked back at my painting. How was that even possible? I had created that image from my mind – not a picture – and it exists!
“I don’t lie, sweetheart. I go to that cottage every summer for a few days it’s really nice. I think I would know what it would look like.”
“How is that even possible?” I breathed and sat down.
“We have a connection. I can take you there if you would like.” He replied simply as if everything was okay and happy – go –lucky but it wasn’t. I was having a mild heart attack and a panic attack. Ashton seemed to notice and rubbed my back soothingly.
“Love, relax, okay? I know this is hard to take but trust me, I’m here for you. Everything will work out.” And when he said that, all my nervousness went away. I was calm and happy again. It was something about him that soothed me. Maybe it was his ocean blue eyes that held nothing but love, longing and happiness. Or maybe it was quirky dimple that popped up on his left cheek when he smiled.
“Thanks.” I said shyly and blushed at his nearness.
“Anything for you, bright eyes.” He said and trailed his fingers over my lips. Without taking his eyes off mine, he leaned down and I knew he was going to kiss me.
“Ms. Danté and Mr. Defleur, would you like to take it outside?” someone called. I jumped a mile into the air but Ashton remained calm. His hand was woven tightly around mine.
“Yes, we would, come on Melly.” He said and pulled me towards the door. I hesitated and resisted his pull. There was no way I was going to let him get me into trouble. He looked down at me with a curious stare, his eyebrows knitted together. I shook my head in small, quick movements so no one but him would notice. Kids in the class stopped what they were doing and watched
“That wasn’t an option Mr. Defleur.” Mrs. Thompson was angry. Her hands were rested on her hips to show that she meant business. Mrs. Thompson was a rather cruel lady. Some say she was dropped on her head as a child and others thought her husband had left her and she was too embarrassed to change her name back to Ms. But whatever the case was, Mrs. Thompson was a mean lady.
