September 12:
Dear Ethan,
"It was around the second week of school when he transferred to our here," I began.
Jaysen asked, "From where?"
"I think from L.A."
"Okay," he paused and jotted something quick in his notepad.
"We didn't have any classes for about a month or so, but then he got put in my English and science classes," I started to reminisce. "He was a popular guy with other kids always by his side. Everyone loved him...he was witty, down-to-Earth, and so caring."
"I see," said Jaysen flatly, in such a way that it seemed as though he were disinterested.
I ignored his arrogance and continued. "One rainy day, after school had ended, I had forgotten my umbrella and I couldn't get a ride. Irate at the dull situation, I sulked my way home. My clothes were dripping, my hair was a mess and I was freezing. Unexpectedly, Ethan came along and offered his umbrella; he was coincidentally walking the same way as I. We had our first conversation with the wind whisking at our pale faces and the raindrops spitting at our bodies."
"I'm assuming from there you guys started to talk more and developed a relationship?" Jaysen blatantly questioned.
"Yes." I scoffed.
"You don't have to detail your moments with Ethan. Tell me what happened in the week of his murder."
"You think I murdered him, don't you?" A wave of disappointment hit me.
"I never said that. We don't have much time Rosalie - I am meeting with the judge on the 15th, 3 days from now."He sighed,"Please continue from where I asked you to."
"Me and Ethan had been going out for a pretty good deal of time. I knew that some girls were jealous of me and that some of his friends made fun of our relationship. I believe it was Monday when a group of girls made me doubt my trust in him. I went to the bathroom at lunch and those girls, who I spoke of just now, told me that Ethan was seeing someone else..." I was disturbed at remembering this event.
"Wait. Do you remember the names of those girls?" Asked Jaysen.
"I'm not certain. I think it was Alexia Bouldare, Haley Grosh, Jordan Smith, and Kayla Fayle."
He wrote the names on his notepad.
"They told me that they saw him kissing a girl named Claire Hart near the baseball field."
"Did you have any relation with Claire?"
"No." I said vaguely.
"What did you do? Did you confront Ethan about what the girls told you?"
"No."
"Did you believe what the girls told you?"
"I suppose I did. I was stupefied."
"It could have been a rumor they made up." Jaysen said.
"During that time I didn't think they were lying to me. Just hearing that Ethan was cheating on me was devastating news, whether it be real or not."
Jaysen scribbled some notes down. "Hmm...so what happened the next day?"
"I don't know if I was influenced by the girls or overly suspicious but I felt Ethan was mad at me for something."
"Was he?"
"No."
"Did you ask him if he was?"
"Yes. He said he wasn't."
"Then maybe he wasn't." Jaysen said coldly.
"He acted different. He distanced himself from me, he didn't talk to me as much, and avoided any eye or physical contact.
"Maybe he was just having a bad day." Jaysen suggested.
"I don't know..."
"I hope you don't mind me asking but when did Tristan come into the picture?"
"It's not like I have a choice to answer you." I bantered. "Tristan has no relation with Ethan, he recently moved here."
"Is he your boyfriend?" Jaysen asked with curious eyes.
"Um...I suppose."
"Are you absolutely sure that Tristan was not around during the time of Ethan's death?"
I took my mind few years back, assuring myself that Tristan was not here during your time.
"I'm positive." I said.
"That is indeed strange. I did some research on Tristan before coming here and I found out that his house burned down in May 23, 2008 - the same day that Ethan died." Jaysen stated.
"What?!" I gasped. "Tristan never told me his house burned down. Are you sure that's him?"
"Yes, my research is credible. Do you think Tristan was ever friends with Ethan?"
"I highly doubt it. Tristan did not go to our school then."
"Do you think Tristan knew about Ethan's death?"
"No. He never spoke to me about it. Ethan's death was a mystery for 2 whole years." I trembled at the thought.
"But somehow you knew about Ethan's death when nobody else did..?" Jaysen pressed.
I was silent. Hurt. "I think you should leave now."
Jaysen's haunting question ended the day and his egoistic attitude made me feel like he was up to no good.
