Chapter 14

When I woke up, I was alone in my bed. I sat up and looked around the room, but I saw no sign of Kira. Wondering what made her leave, I decided to get up and shower. Feeling the searing hot water pour over my body made all my muscles relax and my mind go blank for a little while. It was just what I needed, after all that has been happening. When I was done I brushed my long black hair, and got dressed into a tight black tank and a pair of jogging pants. I was taking my time, I was in no hurry to see what today had in store for me.

"Alpha, my apologies for interrupting your morning, but I was hoping we could take morning patrol together? I think it will be a nice time for the both of us to talk."

I heard Jeff say through our mind link.

" Ill be down in a minute, you can wait out back. I also want to visit the mother wolf today to go over some guidelines of our deal." I answered.

"Yes Alpha"

I finished up getting dressed and went downstairs. As I headed towards the back door I over heard what sounded like a soft snore coming from the living room. I went to check it out, to find Kira's sleeping body on the sofa. As i wondered why she left my room, she started to stir so I quickly made my way out to the back yard before she could wake up and see me.

"Alpha" Jeff greeted with a nod. He was leaning on the rail of the porch waiting for me.

"Jeff, shall we?" I said motioning to the woods. As we started walking I noticed, it was a cool morning, the sun was just making its way over the trees. A beautiful morning I thought to myself. We walked for about a half an hour before jeff decided to say anything.

"Alpha, there are a few... important things I need to speak with you about." He said.

" Well start speaking then."

He was fidgeting and he looked nerves. I had never seen him act like this before. I was kind of surprised, this was the grown man that I saw as my uncle, I have always known him as my dad's beta, the second strongest man I know, other than my father. So to see him being so nerves came as a shock.

" Alpha, I wish to request a place by your side, I want to be your beta. I know that Missy is supposed to be the next beta, but you know how she is. I don't think she is ready for that kind of responsibility, I believe that I can be of better assistance to you right now, especially with my experience and knowledge of our pack history. I also want to talk with you about starting some training, now that your mother and father are gone, there will be some people that wish to take over this pack and land. I think that it would be better safe than sorry if we are ready if or when something happens." The whole time he spoke, he stared at the ground as if he was truly scared of my reaction.

I didn't know what to say, I know if I agree to make him my beta, Missy will be pissed and i don't think she would ever forgive me, but I know he is right, she is not ready to be beta.

"I will agree to make you my temporary beta, just until Missy is ready to take the role on. Now in that case, as far as training we will start later this afternoon, I want you to pair with Missy and train her in being a beta, since you are best qualified to train her personally. Also I want you to train her physically as well as mentally, and teach her everything you know about our history and any other history you know. When the time comes you will step down from beta and let Missy take her place." I said the last part as an Alpha, so no matter what he has to obey.

"Yes Alpha." He seemed to be hiding a smile, so I pushed him.

" Now how about enough serious talk, let's run like we used to with my father. Then we can go talk with the wolf." I said with a smile. He laughed and took off. I caught up in a split second, out of everyone in our pack I was the fastest, even faster than my mother and father. We ran to all of our land markers, just like we used to when I was younger. It took an hour before we were finished with patrol.

"That was a trip down memory lane." Jeff laughed. I gave him a smile, it definitely was, I remember when dad would train me back here, it was so mom wouldn't find out and make us stop or just sit and watch to make sure we weren't breaking each other's bones. This memory made my heart hurt and tears threaten to spill out of my eyes. I swallowed hard and pushed the memory back.

"Okay, let's find the wolf." I said and started towards the place I last saw her. It was about ten minutes into our search when I heard Kira's voice in my head.I stopped walking and told Jeff to hold on.

"Can you hear me?" She said.

"Yes, I can hear you, is everything okay?" I asked, worried something was wrong.

"Oh thank god I have been trying forever to figure out how to do this. No nothing is wrong, I was just wondering if you are busy. I wanted to go out or something to get away from this place for a while, and maybe talk with you, get to know eachother better." She sounded a little nerves wich made me smile to myself.

"I am actually doing something right now, tell you what, give me an hour, get ready and we can go for lunch. Sound good?"

"That sounds great. I will see you then."

I smiled uncontrollably to myself. Luckily Jeff didn't ask any questions and we continued on our search. Not long after that we came up on the mother wolf and her three little cubs. When she noticed me, she sent the cubs back into the cave and came to greet me.

"Alpha." she spoke in my head.

"Good morning, I wish to discuss a few things if you have some time to spare." The wolf was grey and pretty big for her kind, but I know my wolf was a lot bigger. She had pale blue eyes, quite a beautiful creature.

"As you wish." she said laying down on the grass in front of the cave.

"As you know I had some people from my pack watch you for a while. I wish to offer you and your cubs a permanent place in my pack. You can choose where you would like to stay anywhere on my land. As far as your roll, I wish for you to take over evening patrol, and i would also like you to join my warriors, this means in case of battle you will fight with us. We will provide whatever accommodations necessary for your family. So I ask, do we have an agreement?"

The wolf thought for a while, then she stood.

"I agree, and I must thank you for your kindness. My family will never forget what you have done for us. I owe you my life, you are now my Alpha." As she said this she outstretched her front legs and bowed.

" Good, also we will be starting training later today if you wish to attend, Jeff here will retrieve you." I said motioning to Jeff.

"Yes Alpha, and I do believe I owe you my name." She slowly walked over to me and placed the top of her head in the palm of my hand.

"My name is Tate." She nudged my hand and slowly made her way back to the cave.

"Nicely done Alpha, shall we return home." Jeff spoke up.

I noded and we headed home, I need to get ready to take Kira out before our training this afternoon. At the thought of Kira, I felt butterflies in my stomach and a smile slowly stretch across my face.
