Chapter 12

"What's happening with the break in situation now?" Zach asks me as we sit in the café.

"It's all sorted. It turns out it was a crazy fan who had been camping outside my house in the hedges for like 3 hours or something. My security team managed to catch him." His eyes widen a little at my reply.

"Well that's by far worse than any of my fan encounters," he jokes. "You seem strangely calm about it," he comments.

I shrug. "Well, there isn't a lot I can do now."

"They probably saw you in your underwear," he jokes.

Typical guy.

"Not unless they're superman and flew to the second floor window," I remark.

Zach doesn't reply for a few moments. The only sound is from the chatter of other people in the cafe. I don't push him though, I am perfectly content where I am in this very moment. The delectable aroma of fresh coffee fills the air. Teamed with the cosy atmosphere this cafe emits, and the chatter of people around us, it is a soothing little haven away from hectic life.

"To be honest, I was actually quite concerned about you," he confesses whilst averting his gaze from mine. I feel a little fluttery feeling in my stomach at his words. He really does care. I clear my throat to avoid sounding weird when I reply. Trust me, you can never be too cautious.

I smile softly,"I'm okay, but thank you. I really appreciated your help, and concern."

He shrugs. "I had no choice in the matter really. You ran into me like a bulldozer when you opened the door." I raise my eyebrows in challenge.

Aaaand he's back.

"Don't frown, you'll get more wrinkles." I raise my eyebrows further at that. More?!  He reaches over as though he is about to smooth my forehead out. I swat his hand away before he can reach me, relaxing my expression. He leans back in his chair again, the same playful expression is smacked back on to his face as usual.

"I am only 20 years old," I state matter-of-factly. I know he is only trying to wind me up though. He smirks.

"Nate is going for a younger girl then," he counters. I feel a little uneasy as he says this for some reason. Obviously Nate's dated other girls, quite a lot at that, and Zach's comment about me being a 'little girl' just makes it feel awkward.

"It's only a 2 years difference, you're making this weird," I protest.

"It's all a bit weird if you ask me," he says dramatically. "Sort of gross."

I give him a tight smile. Strangling Zach in a middle of a cafe doesn't seem like the wisest idea so I need to contain myself.

Zach and I are at an italian café. We had lunch here and have ordered milkshakes that should arrive soon. We actually managed to avoid the paparazzi. Which is a miracle. Zach says he uses this local cafe as a quiet retreat from the fame.

We have actually been getting along really well. Zach on his own is so different than he is around big groups. I've only known him for the littlest time, yet I can tell he has this icy, closed-off demeanour just for show. For the majority of lunch we just talked about each other and exchanged random facts about our lives., and it was refreshing.

"I'm just messing with you. 2 years is nothing when it comes to age differences. I'm 22 as well, incase you decide I'm the better candidate, hint hint." He cockily sits back in his seat and flexes his muscles. I force myself to not stare at his very attractive body- he must work out a lot. I can't help but smile though. He really is making an effort to make me feel welcome.
