Chapter 19

"This place is gorgeous" I smile, looking around in awe.

"I knew you'd like it" replies Zach.

Zach has brought me to a huge open plan field which has freshly cut grass for miles, only the faint glow from the city lights subtly illuminates us, immersing us in dimmed peacefulness. I love how calm it is here, it's as though we're on another planet. The distant sound of cars feels miles away as a gentle summer breeze whips around us.

We are stood right on top of a large hill at the end of the field, there is the most beautiful view of the sea here and the summer breeze is gliding past us. The way the night lights twinkle makes it feel as though we are hovering above LA, soaking in all its energy.

I sit down on the grass and stretch my legs out with a sigh.

Zach sits next to me, leaning back on his elbows and looking up at the sky. The sky is clear of clouds tonight, allowing the twinkling stars to be visible.

Zach and I sit silently for a while, the peacefulness of the situation is a great change from the constant hassle from paparazzi. There are barely any people on the beach in the distance either, only a few wandering around or sitting by the sea.

"Do you come up here often?" I ask him as I look ahead at the city in front of us.

"When I need a breather, yeah. But I don't usually have time" he explains. I nod in understanding, Zach is constantly busy with his films and promotions from what I have heard, my schedule runs along the same lines too with modelling and it's hectic.

I rest back on my elbows next to Zach, "I could definitely get used to this view" I sigh. He doesn't reply for a minute or so, I look next to me to see that he is gazing at me. I can't read his expression, and for the first time since the almost-kiss at my house there is no sign of that playful smirk on his face, only pure intensity; the kind that can mean nothing or everything.

"I could too" he murmurs, his eyes holding mine. I feel myself blushing and I am thankful that it's dark out here.

Zach's words feel as though they hold a deeper meaning to them. For a moment I find myself believing he is genuinely talking about me as something more than a friend, but from what I've seen these last few weeks, Zach is naturally a charmer and I really shouldn't let myself get swept away by it all; especially since he was kissing a girl not-so-innocently less than an hour ago.

"I'm the hundredth girl you've used that on, right" I joke.

It is probably true.

"Actually, no" I raise an eyebrow, "hundred and one. I'm just that good" he says smugly.

"Oh of course" I laugh, laying back on the grass and looking up at the sky. I am thankful that I can manage to hang out with Zach and still keep my recently discovered sort-of-feelings for him at bay. I don't want to ruin what we have by being an awkward giggler, I'm glad I'm not one of those type of girls.

"But seriously, you look...breathtaking tonight, I couldn't keep my eyes off you" I feel my breath catch in my throat at his words.

Damn you Zach, you don't make this easy.

I am probably as red as a tomato.

I force myself to look over at him, he has his usual playful expression on his face which I am thankful for, I don't think I could cope with any more of his smouldering looks.

"Thank you" I smile. "Although I'm pretty sure that's a slight exaggeration, you were salivating all over that poor girl, remember?" I tease, lightening the situation.
