Chapter 23
"I'm sorry but I'm going to be late, mum. I was delayed setting off after my shoot"
Mum sighs on the other end of the phone, "I was expecting that much. Just try to get here in 30 minutes, the plan was to eat then."
"I will hopefully, don't worry," I reassure her as I look out the car window. I know it will take longer than that though.
"Alright, see you soon sweetie."
I say goodbye too before ending the call. I lean back in the back seat of the car, with Cam up front driving and Ryan sitting in the passenger seat.
I have had such a busy day. I had an early start with a lingerie shoot which was followed by the summer campaign for Calvin Klein.
The plan was to leave the set by 5:30pm, in order to get my parents' house for 6 ish for the family dinner they have planned, but things never go to plan for me. I got delayed since we had to retake some of the photos, and then there was a huge crowd of fans waiting outside the studio for pictures. I love my fans to bits, but sometimes it can get a little claustrophobic with them all caging me, and no matter how hard you try, you can't take pictures with everyone.
Mum and dad only rang me last night to inform me about this family dinner they've planned. I say 'family dinner,' but the only family there will be my mum, dad and I. Like they mentioned the last time I saw them, my parents have arranged for Jenna and Stephen to come over to dinner, Zach's parents. And true to their word, they've invited Zach too.
To say I'm nervous is an understatement. I mean, it's not a big deal if his parents don't like me, we're just friends after all. I do want them to like me though. First impressions are important from my point of view and I usually find them really easy, however knowing that they're Zach's parents makes me feel a little less confident.
I may or may not have had a quick Google earlier on in the day during my break to see how they look, in the least stalker ish way possible. Zach definitely has Jenna's brown eyes and olive toned skin, yet he resembles his father in his dark hair and the same broad shoulders, not to mention the super sharp jawline that you could probably cut yourself on.
It's fair to say, the whole family has killer genes.
The drive to my parent's house usually takes around 30 minutes without traffic, however the traffic at this time in the afternoon means that it's going to take at least 15 minutes extra, if not longer. It'll be alright though, my mum can keep people talking for hours.
As for last night's conversation with Nate, I haven't dwelt on it too much. After I confessed my feelings for Zach it got a little awkward. He seemingly was expecting it though, and after five more minutes he left my place and I went to bed.
"You alright back there, sleepy?" Cam looks at me through the rear view mirror of the car as we wait at a traffic light.
I smile with a nod, "I could literally could fall asleep right now if I let myself."
He gives me a sympathetic smile, "It's been a long day. But hey, seeing your parents will be nice," he begins to drive again as the traffic light turns green.
"Definitely, I don't see them nearly half as much as I'd like to."
With work commitments from both ends, it's hard to find a time to see them both for an extended period of time, especially with all the projects I have had lately.
"We should be there in another 20 minutes or so," Cam informs me, "try and stay awake unlike dosey over here." He motions towards Ry and I have to stifle a laugh as I lean forward and see him slumped against his seat, fast asleep with his mouth hanging open.
