It was Halloween, and you and Camila were watching horror movies. Aunt Gloria was on a date with that William guy.

A bowl of candy was sat between you and Camila. Though, they were for Trick-or-Treaters, you both were eating it.

"So," Camila said as the movie went to commercial. "Why'd you kick Brad's ass?"

You sighed, unwrapping a Reese's, "If I didn't, he would've kicked my ass."

"Okay..let me rephrase that, why did Brad want to kick your ass?" She asked.

You glanced at Camila, knowing that you couldn't lie to her. Not because she can tell when you're lying, but because she's your best friend, and you guys tell each other everything.

"One day, I saw Brad forcing himself
upon Lauren, and he was going to rape her. So, I stopped them. And then at that party, he did it again, and I stopped him - again. And then he threatened me and bam. Next thing you know? We're fighting." You explained.

"You should file a police report." Camila said, shock evident in her eyes.

"Nah," you shook your head. "That's up to Lauren."

----

Lauren decided to say home and invite her three friends over. They're currently on the couch, also watching horror movies - except, Ally brought a plus one; Troy.

"Are you friends with Brad, Troy?" Ally asked.

"Brad Simpson? Ew, no. He's a douche bag." Troy's face turned to disgust.

Lauren groaned, "Tell me about it."

"I'm so glad that that Y/N girl beat his ass." Normani laughed. "It's about damn time somebody did."

Lauren nodded her head in agreement, but she wonders;

Why did she kick his ass?

----

As you and Camila watched the TV, it suddenly shut off. You furrowed your eyebrows as the lights also shut off.

"Did we just have a power outage?" You asked.

"Y/N! What if it's Michael Myers coming to kill us!" Camila shouted, fear in her voice.

You rolled your eyes, "There's no such thing. I'll be right back, I'm going to go check the fuse box." You stood up.

"No!" Camila shouted. "I mean - I'll come with you - so you know, you won't get scared or anything."

You rolled your eyes and went to the basement, Camila following behind you. You opened the fuse box and flipped the switch, but the lights didn't come on.

You sighed in frustration, "We can't stay here. If we do, we'll freeze to death and I don't feel like dying tonight."

"Where are we going to?" Camila asked as the two of you walked back upstairs.

"Lauren's house," you simply said, even though you didn't want too. "We have no choice. Our other neighbors went with their kids to go trick-or-treating."

---

A knock at Lauren's door startled Ally, causing her to scream. Ally was scared, and Troy's arm was around her.

"No need to be scared," Dinah laughed. "It's probably just little kids." Lauren got up, nodding in agreement with Dinah.

She grabbed the bowl of candy and went to the door, opening it.

"Y/N? Camila?" Lauren asked, setting her bowl down.

"Yeah, hi. Our power went out and it's uh, freezing in there; so can we just hang out here?" You asked, putting your hands in your pocket.

Confused, Lauren nodded and stepped aside, letting you two inside.

---

An awkward silence filled the room. Camila being in the room made Dinah shy and Normani tense, since she knows that her girlfriend liked - or likes, Camila.

Lauren kept starring at you, even though she didn't know she was. You felt her starring at you, but you ignored it and kept your eyes on the TV.

"Thank you, Y/N." Troy suddenly said.

"For?" You questioned, looking at him.

"For beating the shit out of Brad." Troy chuckled.

"Yeah." You shrugged. You didn't want to talk about it, and you aren't proud of yourself. Your mother always told you that violence wasn't the answer, yet, you used it on Brad.

And when you took karate, your mother only said to use it when you're in absolute danger. So, I guess Brad getting ready to hit you counts.

"Yeah? That's all you have to say? Dude! You beat the biggest douche bag in the school up!" Normani exclaimed.

You glanced at Lauren, locking eyes with her.

"I didn't beat him up," you snapped. "If I wanted to beat him up, he'd be in the hospital. And even if I did want to, I wouldn't. Because violence is never the answer." Your mother also told you violence is never the answer because your dad slapped her a few times, and you saw it.

And when your parents were fighting, they sometimes threw things at each other. And then Gloria's ex-husband abused her.

After your outburst, it got quiet and awkward again. Camila is the only one who knows about your parents and what had happened to your aunt.

You sighed, why do I have to snap at people like that?
