I couldn't believe that we were here. I had always dreamed of traveling the world with my best friends, but I never fathomed that it would actually happen.

I stood in the gloomy, yet incredibly cheerful town known as Dublin, Ireland. Farkle's aunt and uncle had lived in a huge house here for 30 years, and since Farkle was being forced to spend his summer here, he convinced (begged his parents for 3 months) to let Riley, Lucas, Zay, and I to come along.

I spun around slowly, taking in the beautiful atmosphere of the gray sky which seemed to wrap around my arms and legs. Moving my legs forward, I trudged through the small puddles on the road in my combat boots and took a deep breath in.

Crisp. That's what the air feels like.

My heavy coat clung to my skinny, pale arms as I swung my arms by my side, joyfully, and stomped around in the muddy grass. I'm 17 years-old, but I sure as hell never grew out of being a kid.

"Maya, get back over here!" the distant voice of Riley called to me.

I turned to find her and was shocked at how far away she seemed. While walking, my daze from the natural air had fooled me into thinking that I had only walked 20 feet, but it had turned out to be 200.

"Sorry! One sec, I'll be right there. Head into the house without me!" I shouted slowly, watching as they all yanked our suitcases out of the car and dragged them towards the front door.

While I really wanted to see the inside of the house, I wanted a couple more minutes alone out here. The air had made me feel some type of way. I was drawn to the way it circled me in a funnel and let me be by myself. Worries seemed to fade away with the thousands of shades of green blossoming around me, from the grass to the trees to the algae growing in the stream 50 yards away from me. It almost made me forget about everything going on back home. Almost.

My mom had never been the same after she and Shawn had separated after dating for two and a half years. She still loved him. Her heart belonged to him. But he was gone. He didn't let himself love her because he didn't want his heart to break.

She wasn't the strong woman I had known so long ago. I hadn't realized I was crying until a tear slipped down my face and onto my cold hands. I sat down on the edge of the rocky, unpaved road and looked around at the area.

This summer was going to be different.

I could tell.
