Chapter 10 - Nightmare Come True
I didn’t need a second warning. My friends are holding hands and I grab Gale’s. Then without any other talk. We sprint passing between the giant’s legs. Adrenaline gives me temporary energy and we keep running. No other words uttered apart from Chesca shouting Left or Right or Straight ahead at paths.
I didn’t know how long we have been running but I risk a glance at the giant. It is not on out trail like we expected him to.
“Halt! I think it’s gone,” I yell but just then another giant, a female perhaps, appeared on our trail. I turn around quick enough to see the first giant just behind the female one.
We run, my lungs begging for air my heart pounding off my chest. Seconds later I spot the Arc. The words ‘FINISH’ painted beside the arc. I accelerate my speed. We pass the Arc and a few inches away from it, I trip and I’m falling fast into the ground face-first.
My face meets the ground; I feel my lips crack and chin dripping blood. I sit, slowly, just in time to see the two giants looming right above me.
The male giant raises his very big hand, ready to smash me and I scream and close my eyes tight waiting for the blow that will surely end my life.
Two Seconds, three, four, five and the blow doesn’t come. I look and see lightning cuffs on the giant’s hand bound on the dark clouds.
I quickly search my environment I see Chesca bandaging Gale’s head on the stairs of a building. I feel a sting on my lips but still turn to look at my left side. There, I see Jay and En.
Jay battles the female giant, sending bullets of water on her head. The female backs away but appears unharmed, only annoyed. I look at En who is struggling to make the cuffs remain on its place. He looks fiercely at me.
“Get out of there! I cannot hold this much longer!” He shouts. Then I realize that if he release that cuffs, the giant’s hands will hit me directly. I run, ignoring the pain in my ankles. En puts down his raised hands and the giant’s hands smash into the floor. Creating a hole in it, right where I am sitting just seconds ago.
The giant turns on En. En sent electricity on the giant’s way, it makes the giant convulse but nothing more. The giant throws a big knife and it hits En’s arm. He curses.
I wrench my gaze from En’s loosing battle to Jay who isn’t anywhere near winning either. The female’s hands sweep past Jay, he runs but not quick enough. Jay smashes against a wall and fell, crumpled. I let out a shriek and rage took over me. They WILL NOT kill any of my friends.
I grab the Torade in my bag and down it in two big gulps. Tensing, I lift my arms upward and push with all the power I can muster. The two giants fly backwards and fell to the ground. Dazed, they try to stand but I send another wave of air force and they tumble farther backwards. I form my own air rope and nail them in place. I send a pillar flying towards the female and the giant crumples then vanishes without trace.
I turn to the male giant, pinned on the ground next to his now gone mate. The giant roars defiantly and struggles, I feel instantly uneasy but not allowing that to take over I form a ‘hand’ using air, but this time not to tickle anyone but to kill a monster. I squeeze his neck tight and seconds after he vanishes, too. The way his mate did.
Before I could lose my temporary strength I run for Jay, passing En who is wide-eyed in shock. I run past him and drop beside Jay. I feel his pulse, he still breathes. In fact, he is grinning at me foolishly.
“T-that w-was a-a-amazing” Jay stutteres.
“Shut up,” I say, tears pooling in my eyes. I am so glad he is alive.
