Chapter 29 - Inability
The mixed emotions I feel at the same time roots me in place. I couldn't walk. I am temporarily paralyzed. Staring at a dear friend who is scathed all over tends to have that kind of effect on anyone. Suddenly, as I blindly grope for any kind of grip, my imagination kicked in. Vivid images of them beating up En, Jay, Chesca, Gale and Julia played through my thoughts like a film.
Still I couldn't move. Normally, those thoughts would've fueled me. Or so, from my observation, will give me temporary absolute control over my element.
Then I realized, this isn't about myself paralyzing myself. It is about someone paralyzing me. I wanted to will myself to look at another direction, but I can't. I couldn't even blink my eyes.
Panic begins to set in but I'm still motionless. Physically, that is. Mentally, thoughts have jumbled itself on my mind. A stream of curses, possible solutions, explanations and random things inhabited my already overpopulated mind. It's scary. Like I can literally feel my sanity slowly slip away from me.
What feels like forever passes by before I can move again.
And as soon as I can move, a fist connected with my jaw and I fell roughly on the cement. Looking up, I see Crow towering over me.
"What are you doing?" I say in a muffled voice. Blood sputters out my mouth and it prevents me from speaking clearly.
"I didn't do that," Crow replies quickly and then he turns his back to me and throws a punch. Standing up with wobbly knees, my eyes caught sight of a hooded figure battling with Acron and Crow.
The victims at the center still sit unconcious, oblivious to the battle that is happening around them.
"Agh!" Acron grunts as he is pinned down on the hard floor.
Hopefully not too late to join the battle, I summon an air force and knock the man off Acron. The man stumbles slightly but it was enough to give Acron the desired time to counterattack. They turn into a blur of motion until I couldn't distinguish who is who.
Not knowing what I should do, I let recklessness lead my way. I run for Gale, who was nearest me, I shook his shoulders gently careful not to hurt him further. An agonized murmur leaves his lips and suddenly my eyes began to swell with salty liquid. Just as a tear is about to fall, I realized now is not the time to be emotional. All of us here is in danger. And we need an immediate action.
Abruptly turning around, I hurl a force above. The big metal spikes squeaks in complaint as it is forced to change location. Anywhere is acceptable. Just not over anyone's head.
It took me almost half of my energy and a pail of sweat before I am able to move it somewhere far. I didn't have the time to admire my work since a defeaning crash echoed through the chamber.
Instinctively, I duck. But after a few seconds when I'm sure nothing will happen, I turn around to search for the source of that sound.
A portion of the chamber wall is bared open. And on it is a rapid swirl of colorful lights.
Running, I went to Acron's side. Deciding to ignore the mysterious object. Acron is bleeding profusely and I knew I had to at least ease his pain or else something very bad will happen.
Tearing the hem of my shirt, I tied it over his wound to stop it from bleeding. He leans on the column beside him. His eyes are closed and it's evident that he is trying to stop himself from screaming. Panicking, I grope for any antidote that I can give to him.
My sling bag that I always carry around everywhere I go is not in it's usual place by my waist. Of course. If I'd be a kidnapper, I'd be sure to not leave any possible bags for the kidnapped person to hide a weapon.
