It was twilight, and the stars dotted the sky like crisp lights. (y/n) stepped outside and looked around before sitting down on the back porch and staring at the sky in thought, a calculated look on her face. the houses surrounding hers were no longer illuminated as they were earlier that night. She took in a deep breath, the crisp air filling her nose. The light breeze brought a smile to her face. This was the last night she could do this before something changed. She could feel it. Whatever happened tomorrow was going to change her in every way. She looked at the stars. Crisp lights shining clearly through the night. A sudden booming voice strongly rang from the forest. The beast. A creak sounded behind her, but before she turned to see what it was, two white eyes in a cloud of darkness peered out from behind a nearby house. "Nice to see you again, daughter" The deep voice murmered. "Yeah...happy to see you too, dad..." (y/n) mumbled, scuffing at the ground with her foot. "Have you been doing okay? Has your mother been treating you well?" The beast asked in a rather caring tone, despite his looks and outer personality. "mhm.." (y/n) hummed, not looking up. Her father sighed. "I know you don't want me here, but I'm your father. I really do care for you." He said. "Yeah sure okay." (y/n) muttered, not daring to look up. "...If you want me to leave, I will. But I'll be back soon." He said, sorrow lacing his voice. "Go ahead, see if I care." She growled. After a moment's hesitation, the beast turned away, and with that, he was gone. (y/n) sighed and turned to go back inside, only to find Wirt directly in front of her, his mouth slightly hung open, and the door shut behind him. "(y/n)...who...was that?" He breathed, staring at where her dad once stood. "Nobody." She retorted. "What are you even doing out here?" "Well, Greg woke me up earlier, so I was kind of half asleep, when I saw you walk out, so I followed you. I-I mean not followed, I mean yeah, I did, but what I meant was like went to see where you were going in a not stalker wa-" "Wirt! Just sum it up, will you?" (y/n) cut off his rambling, waving her hand. "Right! So um, I saw you walk out, so I went to see what you were doing." Wirt said, fiddling with his thumbs. "Well next time, just ask." (y/n) said, puffing out her cheeks and sitting down. "Alright, but again, who was that guy? I mean, I know he was your dad, but..." Wirt trailed, sitting besides her. "Well he's...ok so...it's complicated...you see,-" "(y/n), sum it up, will you?" Wirt said with a small joking smile. (y/n) lightly nudged his shoulder, giving him a small smile. "Alright, so..." she let out a small sigh. "That beast I told you about...he's my dad."
