The bell rings for our next period.
"I'll see you at lunch" Sam says as she waves goodbye to me heading to her next class. It's my first day at school back in Virginia. Everything feels surreal. Almost too good to be true if you ask me. It's almost the end of the school day and not one person has asked me how I'm doing after the incident with my sister. As I sat down in my English class I notice a new pair of hazel eyes watching me intently. I look at the owner surprised to see a boy who probably transferred while I was in Washington, because I didn't recognize him at all. He continued to watch me with curiosity obvious in his eyes. Did I have something on my face? I immediately recognized one of my friends who came running towards me when she entered the classroom; luckily the teacher wasn't in the room yet. I stood up and gave her a hug. He continued to watch me, what was so interesting about me?
"Hey Elissa, do I have something on my face or something?" I ask her.
"No why?" she looks at me like I'm crazy. She always told the truth which is why I loved her!
"Because that guy over there keeps staring at me." I say while pointing at him. I notice as I do this he turns away with the slightest little bit of pink on his cheeks. Was he blushing?
"Ohhh that's Dominic McAllister, new boy he transferred about a month ago from Colorado."
"Why is he staring at me then?"
"I honestly have no frickin idea. But I have a plan." She says as she walks over pulling me with her. Oh great another one of Elissa's spur the moment idea's. This would not end well.
"Hey Dominic why were you staring at Anna" she leaned over his desk in full on interrogation mode. I felt my cheeks heat up, this was embarrassing. I block them out and look at the mystery guy. He's wearing a tight fitting gray t-shirt, some worn out jeans, and vans. His hair was light brown and curly, his eyes were definitely hazel, and his jaw bone was practically perfect. He was looking at me now, uh-oh I was caught.
"Checking me out?" he asks with a smirk on his face. I blush and hide behind my blond hair.
"Anna, were you even listening to a word we just said?" Elissa asks me.
"No, because it wasn't my idea to come over here. You dragged me." I laughed and Dominic lets out a little chuckle.
"Really Liz?" he says looking at Elissa. Did he just call her Liz? I didn't even call her Liz...
"Well you were staring and she started thinking that she had something on her face so I was determined to find out why you would be staring at her. She's probably already self conscience enough today because it's her first time in 7 months to walk down these halls again since..." she trailed off when she noticed my face. I felt the blood rush out of my face as I remembered that day, the blood going everywhere and staining my blonde hair, the loud bangs of gunshots, and the rev of motorcycle engines going off. I was the only one who knows what really happened that day. Sam and Elissa know a little bit but not the whole truth. I tried my hardest not to start crying, of course if anyone was going to bring it up today didn't expect it to be Elissa.
"I'm so sorry Anna. I'll go get duck tape and shut myself up" Elissa said.
"Its fine, I should have known someone would say something today." I say as I walk back to my seat...
At lunch I'm sitting next to Sam, she is blabbering about going to the mall together this weekend. I just kept saying yeah whenever she paused, I was drifting off.
"Okay who put a stick up your ass and what level do they need to be beaten up at?" she says, I finally pay attention. Sam had different levels of how much she would beat someone up by if they messed with me. Level 1- a black eye and maybe a broken nose, level 2- both from level 1 plus another bonus broken limb, level 3- let's just say, don't get her mad enough to get level 3....
