Chapter 8

Nandini narrates the entire incident to Navya while heading out of the restaurant. She was just too tired, so they call it a day and take their cabs back home.

'How do you get so much drama in my life?' murmurs Nandini while looking up the sky.

While she is having her little chat with her Aiyappa, her cab stops suddenly

Nandini slowly asks the driver, 'What happened?'

I don't know madam, I'll check. Let me get down. The cab driver informed her.

Nothing more tonight please, Prays Nandini

Madam, I'll need a mechanic, shouted the Driver

Exactly what she didn't want to hear. But to her dismay, it was not her night

Nandini got out of the cab and started looking for another cab around.

It was getting darker, and no signs of any cab, so she decided to walk ahead.

As she headed out towards the highway, she had some company. Not the kind she was expecting, she decided to ignore them and walk ahead.

But someone tapped her shoulder, scared Nandini turned around to see a bunch of men surrounding her and she got alarmed.

Nandini tried to shout and run, but they were too many. All of them laughing at her and looking at her with those evil eyes.

Nandini didn't know what to do. They started dragging her, she just bit one of the guys and started to run, but they followed her

She didn't know where she was running, but she just kept moving forward as fast as she could, she was getting breathless, but she didn't stop.

But the goons were faster and held her, tears welled up in her eyes and she screamed at the top of her voice.

Nandini hoped with all her heart, that there'll be some vehicle around.

It was a bad day but not that bad, there it was, luckily a car passed by and saw what was happening there

Nandini hoped for help and kept shouting with all her strength.

Guess, who was it? Nandini and Manik's stars were really aligned that night.

Manik was driving by the same road, and he heard the screaming.

He got down from the car and looked at her all scared.

The Goons were not scared, but he was Manik Malhotra.

His rage had just shot up, he grabbed Nandini with one swift motion and puts her behind himself.

And the goons start to fight him, its Manik vs them, they hit him and Nandini is just shocked over the happenings.

Manik looked at that one guy who was holding Nandini and punched him real hard, but they were too many to fight.

The fight got intense and Manik was getting hurt, but luckily he grabbed a few big rocks and hit them.

There were other cars coming, so the goons decided to run away before getting caught.

Manik was really hurt, he looked at Nandini who was all scared and crying, he felt bad and wanted to console her, but he had to be Monster Manik.

He ran to his car and grabbed his phone. He dialed a number and said a few things, which Nandini couldn't get because of shock. But he was probably sending Police for the getting the gang of goons.

Then, he took out a water bottle from his car and walked towards her and handed it, and Nandini mumbled a faint Thank you to him.

Manik had to break the silence

You don't have any other work na? You just go around creating trouble, don't you? Said Manik

What? Exclaimed Nandini

What were you doing on this road at this hour? Is it a playground?

Did these people invite you or you invited them, huh?

Excuse Me? Are you accusing me of doing this on purpose?

Yes, loving the attention, aren't you?

Nandini's anger shot up this time

Mr. Manik Malhotra get this thing straight in your head, I don't need your attention or anyone else's, Nandini spoke sternly

Manik dropped the tough guy act and decided to divert

Okay, now if you are done. Sit in the car, I'll get you home. I don't have all night.

No Thanks, I'll help myself. Thank you for your help, but it's no longer required.

Well, suit yourself. Stand here all night, have fun. Good night, Ms. Murthy.

Also, a tip if the goons come again don't expect help, Manik drove off saying that.

Nandini stood there waiting for a cab for almost an hour before one showed up, she got in and finally reached home.

It was a long day for Nandini, she laid down on her bed and went over it.

And her thoughts stopped at Manik, even though he was not so nice to her tonight, she knew if it was not for him she wouldn't be safe right now.

A feeling of respect had started building in her. He was her savior and she was grateful and soon she drifts to sleep.

On the other hand, Manik had reached home too, he was nursing his wounds and recalling how he was filled with anger when he saw Nandini with those goons and how it pinched his heart, but he was trying to avoid the feeling and the happiness he felt knowing that she was safe.

He recalled their banter and smiled a little.

Stupid girl, but so innocent, he said to himself.
