To Fight the Battle

Whispers talk of the man in Charleston Bay

Who lurks at night in the darkest alleys

And sings of men that died one battle day

Do you walk in the mist and do you see

My fellow men in robes so dignified

They clasp their guns to their cold, lifeless chests

Yet in their eyes they are so terrified

The years went by and they became even less

Sent them to die for your treacherous sin

They died for you but do you remember?

The men who perished are your golden kin

Their memory should be more than an ember.

The man of Charleston Bay wept that night

He was also the one to lose that fight.

A/N: So normally I don't write an author's note with my poetry but I just wanted to note something about this poem. Charleston was a city and a port in South Carolina. In this city there was a bombardment of Fort Sumpter during 1861 by Confederate troops. This marked the beginning of the Civil War.

I actually didn't know this before I wrote the poem!
