High school popularity was like a deck of cards.

You had the aces. The leaders of the school, the "cool" ones with the latest fashion and rich parents.

You had the Kings. The football jocks. They were on top of the food chain, so us lower ranks, like me, didn't stand a chance.

The queens. The cheerleaders. The overly peppy bitches who made me want to kill myself. (Excluding Lacey, of course)

Then there were the jacks. The normal kids with their own group of friends.

And me. One of the jokers.

Jokers were like the social outcasts. Kings and jokes were on almost the two opposite ends, and that's why I didn't get much say when Luke chose to beat me up on Monday afternoon.

"Aw, mate!" I said, grabbing my nose. I felt blood trickle into my hand. I had no idea where Michael was, and Calum stayed home sick.

"I'm not your mate." He grumbled.

"Thank god for that, you probably reproduce like a chimpanzee." I snapped.

Luke yanked at my hair and picked up my head to look at him.

"You might want to stay away from Lacey. We don't want this to happen again, right?" He asked, and I nodded quickly.

He released me and walked away. The crimson liquid soaked my hand, and I was pretty sure I was bald because it felt like he ripped out my hair.

"Your nose looks broken." Mona observed before taking my arm and pulling me down the hall to the nurses office.

"Thanks for the observation, Dr. Do I pay in cash or credit?" I said sarcastically, trying to distract myself from the pain shooting from the bridge of my nose.

"20 dollars would be nice, actually." She shrugged before opening the the door to the nurse's office.
