Pacing back and forth I waited for Damon to come through the door. The Elders had called him in first and I was left outside. Danielson approached me. “Cassy you ok?” He looked at me concerned.
“Yeah, just nervous,” I replied.
“Hey don’t worry about it. The Elders aren’t that scary. They’re just a bunch of old Dragons.” He patted my shoulder. “You’re stronger than all of them, even if they’re the best Dragons.”
I laughed. “You know if they hear you say that then we’ll both be imprisoned.”
“Only if they could catch us.” He grinned devilishly. “And we both know they can’t.”
The doors opened and I took it as a sign to go in. Damon was standing in the middle of the dark room and I went to stand next to him.
“Cassandra Demore,” rumbled a voice.
“Cassandra Salazar,” I corrected.
The voice laughed. “Your name will never be Salazar.” The owner of the voice appeared. Black eyes stared at me from a gray head. A Stealth Dragon. He was huge and loomed over me.
“Eather.” Eather was harsh and wasn’t known for his kindness, in fact he was known for not having any kindness.
More Dragons appeared. Each was beautiful in their own way. There was an Earth and Water Dragon and a silver Vanishing Dragon. No two Dragons were the same but all in all there were eleven, leaving only one missing.
“So you’re the great fire Guardian,” said one voice.
“She is quite stronger, much like Danielson,” said another.
“Do either of you know why we want to speak to you two?” asked the first voice.
“No,” Damon replied.
“We have a task for both of you,” said Eather. “Since the Hunters know about Damon we see a way as using that to our use. You two are to go undercover with the Hunters and after gaining their trust lead the Guardians to kill all of them in Caldwell.”
My jaw dropped. Were they out of their mind? Hunters would never trust Guardians. Damon and I were the first two ever to be able to speak to each other without a fight so how did they think we were going to gain their trust. “Umm I just have one question. How are we supposed to gain their trust?”
Damon had been quiet next to me. “Cassandra Hunters never turn their back on each other. Even though I have said I am a Guardian I was born a Hunter and it won’t be hard for me to get in with them.”
“What do you mean?”
“I’ll explain later,” he said. “Is there anything else Dragons?”
“Leave us,” boomed a voice.
I cringed at the amount of power in the voice and so did Damon. We both nodded to the Dragons and turned to leave when the voice spoke again. “Not you Cassandra.”
Turning I glanced at Damon who nodded at me and left. Utterly dumbfounded I watched the Dragons disappear. Elder Dragons hardly ever ordered each other around. They knew that each had a power and wisdom to that power so for a single Dragon to tell eleven Elders to leave and for me to stay there was only one Dragon who could do that.
“Are you scared?” The voice at first had been above me but now it came from behind.
I thought of what Danielson said. We were stronger than the Dragon Elders, even as Guardians. “No,” I replied.
“Well that’s good.” The voice sounded amused.
“Though I would much like to see you.” I was on edge from the voice always moving, never staying place.
