Riley's POV
I walk into school on Monday and look for Max, but I don't see her. I head to my locker to get my things. My hair is in a long braid going down my back. I'm wearing a plain black tank top with a vest over it so the school can't yell at me for my shoulders showing. I got yelled at for that once and when they called my dad he screamed at the principal and called him a pervert for sexualizing my attire. That was a good day.
I have 'Slipknot' on the back of the vest with other band patches on it. I'm wearing a red and black plaid skirt - just long enough so I can't get yelled at for my legs showing; you should have seen my dad yelling at the staff for that one - with fishnet leggings under it and black combat boots. The locket my mom gave me is around my neck and my bracelet from Max is around my left wrist. I have my makeup done and my nails are painted black.
Emily went online and told everyone the truth about the abortion. As soon as she did, so did I and everyone connected to the situation. Everyone who read it went absolutely crazy over it. We've all decided to ignore the backlash until we can get a professional interview, which of course will be done by my dad. Emily gave us all permission to say whatever we need to say in regards to the situation, which helps us significantly.
I shut my locker and turn to see Max approaching me, sheepishly. She's in camo skinny jeans with a chain hanging from two belt loops, and brown combat boots on her feet. She's wearing a black T-shirt that reads "Ronnie Radke Made Me Do It" in hot pink letters and under that is a long sleeved, navy blue shirt. On her wrist is her rainbow bracelet and a purple bow is in her hair.
I don't remember the last time I saw her wear a "normal" outfit.
God, I love her.
Her nails have been painted yellow and she has her makeup done. Her hair is curled and hanging over her shoulders. The gray bow my dad gave her is clipped to the chain of a dog - tag necklace around her neck with her dad's name on it.
"Hey..." She says.
"Hey." I repeat.
There's a pause.
"I'm sorry." I finally say.
"I'm sorry too. I saw what Emily posted online. That's probably gonna help you guys a lot, huh?"
"Yeah..." I say, "Um...Are we okay?"
Max sighs, "I don't know, are we?"
"I want to be, but...we said some pretty bad things to each other."
"Well, yeah, but you and I both know we didn't mean any of it. We just said the first insulting thing that came to mind because we were angry."
"Yeah, I guess..." I say, "Okay, how about this? We start over. Completely clean slate. The fight never happened."
Max nods, "Yeah, okay."
I smile. I step forward and quickly kiss her.
"I was actually pretty worried." I admit when we come apart.
"I was too...I love you."
"I love you too."
Jack walks over, "Am I interrupting?"
