Riley's POV
"Riley! Your mom is here!" Sabrina calls from downstairs.
"Coming!"
I grab my things and rush downstairs.
"Hi, Mom! Bye, Mom!" I say as I walk outside with Carlie.
"Have fun!" Sabrina calls before going back inside.
"It's been a while." Carlie states.
"Yeah, sorry. I've been kinda busy with a lot of the drama that comes with being Chris Motionless' daughter."
"Well, now you can just relax with your mom while she makes you a late-birthday dinner." Carlie says, tossing me her keys, "You wanna drive?"
"Seriously?"
"Yeah. You have a driving test coming up, don't you? You've gotta practice!"
I smile, "Thanks, Mom."
We get into the car and I drive off.
"So, have you seen Dustin since he was found innocent?" I ask as I press the button to open the gates.
"Oh, yes. It's been so great to be able to hang out with him like old times."
"Well, that's good. I'm happy for you."
"What about you? Anything new with your friends since the whole abortion thing?"
I wince, "You heard about that?"
"Indonesia heard about that."
Huh. So that's where I get that from.
"Well, I'm pretty sure it's all blown over by now, but I don't know. Emily comes from a very conservative and religious family, and not in a good way; I worry about her sometimes. As for Jack, I think things in his situation are a lot better. It was a little awkward between us at first because the guy that killed his sister is the same guy that kidnapped me and my mom is best friends with the guy that was originally accused of killing her and all that. We're fine now though. He's given up sports completely though so he can take music more seriously and his parents came over and apologized to Sabrina for misjudging our family."
"Wow...So music, huh? Think that could turn into something you maybe wanna pursue?"
"I don't know...Dad has never pressured me to do music, or anything for that matter, if it isn't something I really want to do. I know he'll be proud of me no matter what it is that I end up doing with my life, but I am really starting to enjoy music. It's really therapeutic and I have a lot of fun with it. It's easier for me to learn than regular people too because of my memory. I already play piano and guitar pretty well. Or, at least, Dad says I do. He even gave me his first guitar for my birthday."
Carlie's eyebrows shoot up, "Woah. That's a big deal, Riley. That guitar was his baby before you came along. Take care of it."
"Are you kidding? It's one of the most important things I own now."
