I walk into the campus consumed by my own thoughts. Chicago? That's where I belong? This is for my own good? My head pounds with all these questions but I can't stop thinking about them.
"Lena!" I turn around and see Sam running towards me. "I've been calling you for so long, you didn't even listen."
"Oh. . .I didn't hear you." I lie. I did hear him, I just didn't want to talk. In our society we're not allowed to lie and nobody does. Its just me, I just cant keep on being honest. Sometimes or should I say most of the times I feel like I don't belong here. I find the rules really weird. But according to everyone else they're perfectly fine.
"Lena to earth!"
"Yea! "
"You weren't listening were you?"
"Uh. . .I. . ."
"You weren't listening. I'm asking you why did you leave the medical room without informing anyone? They're all looking for you."
I stay silent not knowing what to say. Then finally say, "I need to go to the library. Bye. " I walk away before he could say anything.
I enter the library and pick a book titled: About our Society. I open the first page.
200 years ago our founder established
a system that they believed would
prevent future conflict. In our society
there are certain rules we need to follow.Primary Rules:
1) Never lie
2)Physical contact in public is forbidden
3)Use precise language
4)Always obey curfew.
5)Never cross the fence.
6)Difference is forbidden.Difference is forbidden? What kind of rule is that? How can one be different?
I jolt awake. A women with a raven tattoo
wearing all black stares at me terrified.
"Get up." She says. I just stare at her. "Get up"
she says while grabbing my arm and pulling
me off the chair."Your going to tell your family
that the serum made you sick and I sent you
back". "But what was my result?" I question.
"Abnegation. . .Erudite and Dauntless.""Are you okay Lena?" I hear a female question. I turn around and see my friend Diya. She has black hair that reaches slightly below her shoulders and black eyes. She wears glasses with a rectangular frame.
"I, um... Yeah I'm good. Why?"
"Well, you were just staring at the wall like you saw a ghost and suddenly started sweating a lot."
"Oh. . .its just-"
"I know you're sick. I just came to inform you that there's a car waiting waiting for you near the gate."
"Oh, thanks."

I enter my house. See my parents and supervisors?
"How are you feeling Lena?" Mom questions
I decide to tell her about me 'visions' but before I could answer my dad's phone rings.
"Hello?. . .yes David!. . .No, not at all!. . .everything is absolutely fine there's nothing to worry about. . .Lena just got sick doctor's say its flu. . .wait what?!. . .Now?. . O-okay we'll be ready."
Supervisors and my parents exchange a worried glance.
"Lena go get changed." orders my mom.
"Mom what-"
"LENA JUST GO! "
I don't argue. I hurry upstairs and open my closet. Just then Christina comes in.
"Ma'am what-"
"Tris please don't call me ma'am, it's Christina." she says as she take out various items of clothing.
"It's Lena-"
"TRIS, LENA WHATEVER IT IS, CHANGE FASTT!! " with that she leaves the room.
I still don't understand what's going on but I quickly get changed to the clothes she gave me. I put on black skinny jeans and a black sleeveless top reveling my tattoos. Mom said I got them when I was sixteen and always asked me to keep the ones in my shoulder covered. I wonder why.
I hurry downstairs. I feel my mom grab my shoulder and press something to my palm. I look down and see a GUN?!?!
"Mom why did you give me a gun?!?!"
"Keep it Lena and go with your supervisors! "
"But mom what-"
"LENA NO TIME TO EXPLAIN!! LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER GO WITH YOUR SUPERVISORS!! " orders my dad.
"But dad-"
I don't get to finish. My mom grabs my arm and pulls me along with her.
"Mom I don't understand!!"
"Honey I love you and so does your dad. "
"Mom-"
"NO MATTER WHAT WE LOVE YOU! WE ALWAYS LOVED YOU AND WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER!! "
It was dusk. It was dark. But I could still see the worry in my mothers expression and the tears streaming down her face. She stops near the car. From the corner of my eye I see Sam hurrying towards me.
"Lena. Listen to me one last time-" by this time tears start streaming down my face.
"MOM WHY ARE YOU SAYING THIS?!!? WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY 'ONE LAST TIME'?!?!"
"LENA JUST LISTEN!!! KEEP THE GUN. GO WITH YOUR SUPERVISORS. TRUST THEM. AND WE LOVE YOU. Good bye sweety." she whispers the last part.
Sam is standing beside me constantly asking what's going on, from the corner if my eye I see soldiers with guns running towards us.
"Be brave. " she kisses my forehead and pushes me inside the car. Sam also comes inside after me. The car starts moving forward in full speed.
"NOO W-WE CAN'T LEAVE THEM!!! " My eyes are blurry with tears. I quickly turn around to see my parents from the back window.
The last memory of my parents I have is: My mom and dad staring at me with tears in their eyes while being shot multiple times.
I start wailing uncontrollably. Sam engulfs me into a tight hug and I sob into his shirt. My mother's last word's to me constantly repeat in my head.
Be brave.
