"Have a nice day." I force a smile as a amity man serves me with some rice. Seriously these people indeed are annoying, no wonder Four didn't want to come here. I take a glance at my plate, a bit of rice, some chicken gravy and 2 slices of bread.
I sit beside Christina and across Four, Sam is crushed between Four and Zeke. Like literally crushed. Sam and Christina are arguing about something, Shauna and Zeke are also involved in the argument. The only ones who aren't talking are me and Four. Four looks like he's. . .in pain. Zeke is about to eat the bread when Four says, "Not the bread."
"But I'm hungry!! " whines Zeke. A smile spreads across Shauna's face.
"Stop behaving like Uriah-" By the expression on Christinas face, she clearly regrets the words she said.
The table falls silent. No one says a word and has a serious face, except for Sam who looks confused.
"Who's Uriah?" I ask. Zeke looks pained.
You shouldn't have asked Lena.
"He. . .he is my brother. Actually, was my brother."
I raise no further questions. I tell them I'm going to wash my hands and leave. I scan the compound for a wash basin and spot one behind the kitchen. Its hardly visible. I wash my hand and dry them using a towel hung on the wall. From the corner of my eye I see two men dressed in white staring at me. There's a slight ache on my right temple.
"Tris!" screams Four's voice. "I love
you too, I'll see you soon." "If I
don't survive, tell Tobias I didn't
want to leave him." its my voice
this time.I patiently wait for more voices, but there's no more. The moment after hearing these voices is like waking up from a nightmare so realistic that it takes you a few seconds to realize who you are or where you are.
After coming back to my senses I look up to those men again, but they're not there anymore.
Where did they go?
I'm still having trouble in remembering what faction wear only white. I push these thoughts aside and walk back to my seat. Everyone's talking again, except Four. Sam, Christina, Shauna and Zeke are back into their argument. I watch them from a distance not wanting to interrupt. I watch Four's emotionless face as he stares at the bread on his plate. I spot a small smile at the corner of his mouth.
From what I have observed, It's very hard to make Four smile. How can possibly Four smile by looking at bread. I look into his deep blue eyes. Memories. Yes, memories can make any person smile and that what's making Four smile. I wonder what memory is he smiling about.
I turn my attention to the argument. "Stop lying Christina!" accuses Sam.
"I'm not!" She exclaims.
"Oh yes you are!"
"I was Candor, how can I lie?!"
Zeke gives a fake cough,"emphasis on the was."
Christina glares at Zeke who puts his hand up in surrender. Sam looks clearly annoyed. I watched his expression turn from anger to terrified. What happens after that, happens in slow motion.
"Four! Watch out!" scream Sam snapping Four out of his thoughts. He looks up from his plate bewildered. I watch with my feet stuck to the ground as Sam pushes Zeke out of the way and Shields Four.
Bam! I hear a gun shot. Screams voice all around me. People rise from their seats and start running, blocking my view. There is chaos all around me, and my ears filled with screams of panic. As I make my through the crowd only one thought crosses my mind.
Who got shot? Sam? Four? Who? And why?
I finally make my way through the crowd and see my companions kneeling on the ground. I don't spot Four or Sam. I hurry towards them and see him lying on the ground motionless. I inhale a sharp breath and whisper.
"Sam."
