Pain. So much pain.
Gun Shots everywhere.
My arm. It's shot.
Not my heart. Or stomach. Or head."Tris run!" I open my eyes to see that person I least expected to see. Nita. She stopped Matthew from shooting me. Nita saved me.
"What are you staring at?! Run!" She yells fighting against Matthew.
I don't waste a minute and run along with the stabbing pain in my arm. As I exit the room two things happen: (1) I hear multiple gun shots with yell (2) Sam stops my way. Armed.
I stare at him in disbelief but then get myself together. He's not the Sam I knew. He never really was my friend. I push past him and hear a shot, the bullet doesn't hit me though. Sam shouts some inaudible and starts chasing me, soon he is joined by a few more guards.
At this moment I think about Genevive and Ethan, how they must have felt as armed men ran behind them. They knew one day or another they'd have to face this situation. And they were willing to take the risk knowing the consequences, willing to make the sacrifice. My mother, my father, Genevive and Ethan sacrificed their lives for one purpose: To keep me alive. And I'm not going to let go this time, no matter what. I won't let go.
I'm not done yet.
I run holding on to my life. My life that could slip away with just one bullet. At this moment I realize, how fragile our lives are, how easily it and slip away. My lungs feel like they're on fire as I run, sometimes I just want to give up. To stop running and say, "I give up. Kill me. I done." but I don't stop. The pain in my arm hurts worse than ever. Tears sting at the back of my eyes.
I won't make it.
No. I will. Just Run.
Pain. So much pain.
Run. Run. Right. Left. Gun shots. Shouts.
I run aimlessly through the corridors, turning towards whatever direction I see. I see a door, I rush inside and lock it. The room's white like the rest of the rooms, it has a couple of metal tables and and metal boxes on them. I open one of the metal boxes greeted by cold white air.I see something I'm very familiar with. Green serums ready to be injected. Memory serums.
"I know you're in there! Open the door!" Sam yells from the other side of the door. The door begins to shake violently.
They're breaking it.
I hear them loading their guns ready to fire.
I'm not going to make it.
How can I possibly win? One unarmed against a dozen armed?
Try. Do something!
Taking my chances I pick a syringe and adjust it in a position ready to stab. I make my way beside the door and press my back against the wall. The best strategy I can think of is this: Hopefully the guards are foolish enough to not look side ways and enter the room, I stab whoever comes in my way and escape.
The door flies open, half the guards charge and half the guards charge sideways. They aim their guns ready to charge--
"Stop!" calls a voice. Sam, "Matthew wants to kill her."
"What is she runs? She's done it many times." states a guard.
Sam's lips curl into a wicked smile. He pulls out his gun and shoots my leg. Pain. All over my body. Pain.
"Now she won't run."
The guards carry me making my legs hurt even harder. The wound feels like a second heartbeat. I try to fight them but it's of no use, they're stronger than me. Spots begin to appear in my vision.
I lost too much blood.
My eyes begin to shut--
Bang! Someone yells in agony. Sam. Dauntless soldiers begin to fill in the corridor, gentle and firm hands are replaced by rough one. Tobias pulls me into a hug and touches our foreheads.
"What were you thinking?" He sounds worried.
"I, I was trying to save Sam, turns out it was all a trap."
"Clearly I can see that." he looks at Sam who's still with Christina pointing a gun at him.
"Hold her Shauna." Shauna holds me, careful not to touch my injuries. Tobias punches him hard on the jaw. Sam groans and falls on the floor. Taking the gun from Christina he presses it to Sam's chest.
"Why did you want to kill her."
"Revenge."
"Why? " Tobias sounds dangerous.
"Because she killed our mother. She killed Jeanine."
He doesn't seem shocked by the information like the rest of us, " 'our' mother?"
"Mine and Jason's"
"Jason? "
"You know him as Matthew."
Just then a Zeke enters while pointing a gun a Matthew's temple.
"He betrayed us." States Zeke.
"Yeah." Tobias gets up, "Take them to Dauntless Cells. We'll see what to do to them."
"Where's Nita?" I suddenly question.
"Why are you worried about Nita?" Tobias sounds confuse.
"She saved my life." they all seem shocked.
"I'm sorry Tris," voice's Zeke, "she's dead."
"Oh." I don't know what else to say.
"Everyone go to the truck. Me and Tris will be there in a minute."
The corridor slowly empties leaving me and Tobias. He makes his way towards me.
"I remember."
He smiles, "I know, Matthew told us."
"I thought I was going to die."
He pulls me close, "Don't ever say that again."
I nod. "You aren't carrying a gun."
"I'm done with guns. A long time ago."
"oh"
He smiles and kisses me. Slow and gentle.
